DREAM Act no mass amnesty proposal

There are 26 comments on the The Albany Herald story from Dec 11, 2010, titled DREAM Act no mass amnesty proposal. In it, The Albany Herald reports that:

Are we really that sort of country? Are we really a nation so narrow-minded and nativist that we would deny citizenship to bright and talented young adults with the brains to become surgeons, engineers or astronauts? Are we so grimly determined to punish illegal border-crossings that we would deport young men and women who want to fight for the ...

Yep, we sure are. YOU become legal and all that changes. Don't expect much sympathy here, we are a tolerant nation when ASKED to give assitance, in this case we don't entertain the DEMANDS you make.
Just because Mexihole does not offer the entitlements and freebies we have been so generous with up to this point does not mean they will last forever. You are just shopping for the best bargins you can find and you have found them here for the time being.
The citizenry of this nation is done with supporting your DREAMS at our COST. Find somewhere else to hang your hat and leach off them for awhile.

I agree with Down and Out. I'm so tired of Mexicans taking over the entire blue collar work here in Dallas Fort Worth. I am a commercial mechanical plumber and a damn good one but I havent been able to find work for 3yrs now. I have manged to work sporadically through temp agencies but have not even made 10,000 in the past 3yrs. Yet I see on every jobsite that the entire drywall crew, the entire framing crew, the entire, painting crew, the entir cement crew and over half of all electricians and plumbers are Mexican. They get hired with fake ID's many of them so we dont even know theyre background. But I because of mistakes made in my youth am restricted from being hired. And since these guys generally work cheaper and don't complain they get recieve preference in hiring. Hell; if I was used to making $6-$8.00 a day for 10 rough hrs of work and then began making $12-15.00hr I dont think I'd find much to complain about either. But we have double digit unemployment in this country and we (U.S.Citizens) N-E-E-D these jobs. We aught to fine the hell out of these companies that hire them. All you see now in Hospitals in hotels and resturaunts and factories are Mexicans esp. here in Texas. If we fined the employers handsomely for each illegal they'd quit hiring them and they being unemployable would leave on their own and unemployment here would drop drastically. Why should we reward ppl for not only breaking the immigration laws but adding to our present economic woes?

Fed Up w illegals - Well that certainly sux, being dispalced by the illegals with their low wages undercutting not only you but many others as well.
IMO the shank employers who hire this labor are every bit as guilty, if not more so, than the illegals themselves.
The temptation to use this cheap labor is something the employers can not resist. The fact that are allowed to get away with it is sickening - we have E-Verify that would reduce this abuse substanstially but the business owners have to many "friends" (read that to mean local politicians) that will not mandate the use of E-Verify.
Is Texas begining to turn the corner with enforcement? I thought the midterm elections brought some new blood into the state legislature with a more hard nosed approach, am I correct with that?
I fully agree with you thoughts and ideas about the punishment for employers. Until the employers feel the wrath of hiring illegals nothing will change. Not only fine the employers but let the employers spend some jail time for their hiring practices.
Hang in there my friend, I wish I had more to offer other than that - the citizenry is bound and determined to address this and get it turned around. Hopefully there is enough work in the area for you to make due and hold on.
This is our nation, not their's - don't forget that!

I might be able to deal with the Dream act w/o the provisions to provide a pathway, other than what is available now,for other family members, and if my government could run this or any other program correctly, which they cannot,ie they "lost" 3000,00 airplanes,on paper of course,w/o any follow up.Now how are they going to keep track of these"students".They probably can track the military, but I am not even sure of that anymore.

I said it before, sorry but we need to get our own house in order first, and that includes reducing the drug use in this country that is providing an income to the Mexican drug dealers and destroying so many of our young people.

brains to become surgeons, engineers or astronauts...
how does the GED option and vocational school fit into this?

This is only one of many back door piecemeal amnesties.

The humanitarian part of the bill will be used so the illegal alien parents who caused the problem and the rest of the relatives will not be deported.

There is no no enforcement- no one is going to check millions of illegals to make sure they graduated from high school.(Buy a degree dot com). My town has several "real" charter schools that have went under and their graduates can not get a copy of their diploma or transcript. The government had to call people out of retirement when Americans needed passports for travel to Canada and Mexico. There is nothing in place to verify a 2.1 million core dump of illegals. They don't intend to.

2.1 million illegals will be given 10 year work permits- at a time of record high unemployment.

Do you really think the government who currently gives a massive number of deportation waivers- of known illegals , is going to look for these people 10 years later and make sure they have completed 2 years of college or military?

How many of their own kids will they have by then, that they will use as their humanitarian reason to not be deported?

Stop this job killing bill

Maggir - The skeptic in me says this - look at the recent involvent of our government in this fiasco, does that lend ANY credibility towards their resolve to put citizens first and illegals last?
The agenda brought forward to molly coddle the illegals and place them on a pedestal tells me there is no resolve.
With that in mind I say - No quarter to and no compromise with any legislation to forward the progress of the illegal invasion.

I have written my congressman and signed petitions reguarding this immigration issue and there are state and U.S. representatives trying to block certain legislation and getting other laws passed with reguard to beefing up border patrol but the root cause is that we need to enforce the fed laws that are already in place. We lost alot of ground with the Arizona ruling. In my opinion the focus should be on stiff fines and enforcement of them. This is the most cost effective and logistics effective approach to the problem. If a strong message is sent out to those who would employ them then the same message will reach the violators (immigrants and would be immigrants). If the citizens of Mexico and the current squatters realize that they have become unemployable then they will leave on their own accord saving the I.N.S. and tax payers 100's of millions and perhaps billions of dollars in deportation costs.

America has the most liberal immigration policy in the world. Most countries feel an obligation to protect their citizens and keep out foreign invaders

Fed Up w illegals - That's the spirit, hold the employers and politiciams close to the fire so they can feel the heat. Tell your elected representatives in detail what you expect from them if they want to earn your vote.
I agree, when employment possibilities are denied to the illegals they will not be able to survive here. That is the most direct route, and most cost effective route, to solving this mess. The employers and their buddies will fight this to no end, many people are making profit from this situation - they will be difficult to pry away from the mutual support and protection they offer each other.
I'll take any small victories at this point to curtail the illegal invasion - Not to particular from what direction these victories may come from.
Good luck!! We will eventually regain ownership of this country.

this woman doesn't know her facts. The law is deliberately meant to be vague, such that it really includes anyone under 30. whether or not you've adapted to this culture. OR ANYTHING. Also, there's no provision preventing them from petitioning for relatives. That's the key issue. Most importantly, honestly speaking: how many illegal aliens even try to adapt to our culture ? VERY FEW.

I have an absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE for illegal aliens. I dont care if its a 5yr old kid or an adult that lived here 25 yrs. ZERO.

I also have a ZERO TOLERANCE for the politicians that support illegals.

They will never get my vote and I support lawsuits and jailtime for being an accesory to the LAWBREAKING (laws clearly stated) and not enforcing the laws and DISOBEYING THE CITIZENS THEY WORK FOR.

Wow. People here are so ignorant. Get over it guys...let these kids get a pathway to their futures...they are tax payers too and so are their parents. Not just the "American Citizens". I just want this debate to be over with so we can move onto more important things like...THE FAILING ECONOMY. Thanks

The Illegal aliens, and the hispanics are the reason for our failing economy. Most of them are cheap skates. but, let's not get off topic. Speaking of the immigration issue: why the hell should all immigrants come from the Latin countries anyway ?? Statistically, over 80% come from this region. So, don't give me any of that talk about people 'just searching for a better life'. Nope, don't play that game. We deny access to the better immigrants. There are people from Germany, Sweden, Poland, Ukraine, and many other places who would make GREAT immigrants. They would respect our culture. But, instead, we bring the WORST immigrants here.

Rebecca - We also want this debate to be over with so we can move on to more important things.....mostly stopping the illegal invasion plus regaining our nation back from the illegal immigration apologists that lend aid and abetment to the illegal immigrants.
Duh!!! The illegals are the single largest component of the failing economy.

Why should we give them a pathway? Seriously why? Just because they want one?

The tax issue is a whole other debate. Let's say for the sake of arguement that they pay their taxes in full...SO WHAT? It has no bearing on them being here, does it?

What if a drug dealer kept books and paid the correct amount of tax? Would you just let them keep doing business? THE POINT IS EVEN IF THEY PAY TAXES ITS IRRELEVANT.

Oh and that economy thingy you wanted to move on to, illegals are also hurting many local economies with the extra burden on hospitals (the closing of some is directly related to illegals) school bugets etc.

Even if non of the above was a factor America could kick them out just because we felt like it. Its our country and they are not citizens.

URGENT DANGER!! OUR MILITARY MUST STEP IN AND A CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT PUT BACK IN PLACE OR WE WILL LOSE OUR COUNTRY AND FREEDOM - ALL TYPES, VERY SOON! WILL WE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN TO OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR FREEDOM? Our elected, ignoring Law, even attempt to displace US in Our schools and jobs with foreign nationals that have entered Our country ILLEGALLY.

We CANNOT ALLOW this to continue.
