The University of Charleston, the private West Virginia school that explored the possibility of operating a pharmacy school in the Midway building in Paintsville, announced in late April that "it is not in the best interests ... to proceed at this time." The lawsuits will probably bleed Midway dry.

When you put more at the end of your teaser article for people to click on to read the rest of the story - they generally assume that there exists the REST OF THE STORY.

Midway should have known better than this all along. There was a select group of Paintsvillians who had banded together, in hopes that they could buy real estate and capitalize on this so-called pharmacy school. There was never a qualified student pool to choose from around this area, and everyone should have known that. There would have been a few deserving students that will be fine and go elsewhere now, who would've been contradicted by tens of students who couldn't pass an upper level Biology class at a real college, and will now have to accept the notion that they will not be accepted anywhere. The local community college had planned on pumping out a herd of sub-par candidates that could have never gotten accepted into any pharmacy school elsewhere. Everyone knew that. This whole debacle is a disgrace.

Excellent post!

You are one of the few who gets it. I really pity the poor blokes who think they got accepted to a professional school and put their lives on hold until this joke ran it's course. All the others were just the routine greedy bahstards one finds in EKY. But the jokers from Midway deserve ridicule also.

If you're moving from across the United States to go to pharmacy school in Paintsville, KY, how could you not realize that you are a sub-par candidate? I think Midway administrators must have been smoking crack, but the poor, pitiful people that thought they were finally getting their big break in pharmacy school are ridiculous also. If you're really a good candidate, you're going to get accepted at a competitive school close to where you live. I read that some poor guy, along with his wife, quit his job and moved across the country to go to Midway..lmao. Seriously, who's that stupid?

I'm sure there will be lawsuits, though, because the people here who bought useless land to build apartments and such will push for them. The unknowing pharmaceutical students will have to go back to BSCTC and accept their useless Associate of Arts or Science degrees, while their six figure dreams of pharmacy go down the chute. I mean, what real pharmacy school accepts candidates from a community college? The administrators at real schools weren't born yesterday, they do realize that those classes aren't anywhere near equivalent to biology classes taught at a four-year university, with a competitive biology department. Everyone who fails university comes back to BSCTC and brags about how great they're doing now with their straight A's, as if they are still too stupid to realize that they're in extended high school. I really do feel sorry for the administrators at Midway that were duped into thinking something so stupid could ever come to fruition.

Grundy,South,Charleston, & ETSU all take students from CC backgrounds. In fact not too many schools require a Bachelor's for entrance. If you score well on thePCAT then the school you attended means less.

My feeling is if little Grundy can do then anybody should be able to

Anyone can make straight A's at a CC. I've known people who failed out of biology programs and transferred to a CC and made straight A's, with little effort. They laughed about how they tell you everything that is on the test and how much easier it was for them. CC's are definitely not equivalent to University programs. I've know several people, who I knew were dumber than dirt, graduate from CC with top honors. A few years back the local CC got in trouble with their nursing program because so many women were graduating with no problem, but couldn't pass the RN licensing exam. BSCTCS is a joke. Don't waste your time there, just move onto a real college and don't falsely inflate your ego thinking that you're much smarter than you really are. It'll hit you in the face later on. Going to a Uni will much better prepare you for classes that you'll be hit with at a real pharmacy school.

I guess they're talking about how they accepted several students into the program, who later found out that they had relocated for a pharmacy school that wouldn't exist. The idiots who bought the real estate to sell or rent to Midway pharmacy administrators are just idiots, period. I doubt any of these lawsuits will materialize.

If you're willing to move to Grundy to go to pharmacy school, you deserve a Pharm D degree..LOL. That places is the as*hole of the earth. I still believe that many of these schools are basically degree mills, put out there to serve pharmacies of underserved areas, which would not be populated by people who attended a better school. After all, a doctor at the bottom of his class is still a doctor, just not one that I would want diagnosing me. They offer doctors, who barely speak English, citizenship and tax exemption for 10 years to practice in places like Paintsville.
