I would give my eye teeth to see Bobby Kennedy debate Don Blankenship. This will simply be a an embarrassment for the out of state coal companies. Kennedy will spit Blankenship out like the snoot he is.

Yeah right. Bobby Kennedy flying in here in his private jet to lecture us about global warming. Why do all the good kennedys die young?
Yes you will think Kennedy wins the debate no matter what he says because you tree huggers have no ability to think for yourself.
the place will be filled up with out of state and coal river tree hugging zombies.

I noticed that the only specifics he gave for alternatives was creativity for MTR as well as coal mining in general. That sounds like a winner!

Let's all apply for jobs in creativity.

"West Virginia has options other than coal and mountaintop removal, he says. He spoke about the state’s natural beauty, as well as West Virginia’s convenient proximity to major cities. Finding an alternative future requires some creativity, he says."

How about being born with more money than you can ever spend so you can go around the country aggravating the hell out of honest people out trying to make a living. I despise that piece of human crap. Lecturing us while they are trying to get wind power permannetly excluded from the area around their private compound on Cape Cod. Anyone who listen to this foolish hypocite needs their head examined.

Recent polls indicate that over 40% of Americans do not believe or trust the scientists predictions on climate change and out of about 25 most pressing things on their minds, the environment is dead last and the eonomy is Number 1.

Further proof that climate change is on the back burner is a recent Larry King interview with John Kerry. When asked about climate change, Kerry ignored the question and said that his main concern was the economy. Climate change discussion was dropped.

Britain's Lord Monckton recently went through a detailed calculation of how if every bit of carbon produced was stopped (no more cars, plants etc), it would take more than 30 years to drop the earth's temperature 1 degree, so it's probably way too late to be worrying about it anyway.

Back in the 60's-70's, it was global cooling, now it's global warming or simply a generic climate change. But..if it's already too late, then why not go out in style, prosperous and trendy - creating jobs so folks can buy their SUV's.

Who care about Al Gore anyway? And just where id he get his information for his book? It's not like he can get his facts straight, saying recently that the earth's core is millions of degrees hot, when it is estimated (because no one really knows for sure) that the Inner Mantle of the earth is 5400 ºF (3000ºC) and the Outer Mantle is 2520 ºF (1400ºC) and 5400 º F (3000ºC). The Core of the earth is between 9032 – 10832 ºF (5000-6000 ºC).

Of course Gore did invent the internet too. And thats to him, we all can google and make up our own minds as to which side is telling the truth.

An interesting side note - Climate Change Conference cancelled this week because of the blizzard conditions in DC.

Extreme climate IS from the CLIMATE CHANGE problem.
And the Global temperature for 2009 was the 2nd highest ever on record. the world, not a snow storm on the east coast. Nice try though, and dumb people will by that retoric. Most experts agree that extreme weather, which we are having, is caused by climate change.
Only a fool would make fun of climate change when they are getting hammered with extreme climate.

over the last 2 or 3 years, I have witnessed seasons record lows, and season record highs. rainfall high one years and no rain 2 years ago. no snow for 4 years or maybe a little, and records this year. All of this in the last maybe 5 or 6-7 years. so make fun and laugh. BTW only half of rebublicans dont believe in climate change.

What's the matter, you don't want to admit mother nature and mother earth have their cycles, just like all the other mothers. Man has to have an answer for everything. Can't a woman have her privacy without you prodding and poking?

Read the comments on this. This is what many people in WV are saying. It is indeed the time for a change in WV.

I quote this response from this site because I agree.

"Massey Coal and coal companies do not care about you! If they did, they wouldn’t blow mountains up to get to the coal, which has lost 10,000 jobs for coal miners because the process takes LESS jobs to get it done. You are losing jobs every year because Massey Coal would prefer to have machines do all the work and leave you all without jobs. Each worker costs them money; they see you as a loss to their profits."
"The mountains of this earth are NOT the property of any person, company or state. They are the property of God. When Massey Coal blows them up, they are blowing them up for all of humanity and all future generations. It is an abomination and breaks a covenant with God to care for this planet. As Christians, you should pay close attention to this"
"Coal jobs are NOT the only jobs in this world. Maybe your father and grandfather were coal miners, but they likely suffered significant health problems as a result of their work and never got to “retire” because they weren’t paid enough. There is a better way! And that way is to employ the 14,000 WestVirginians in the coal industry in the renewable energy field, building solar panels, wind turbines and geothermal systems. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO FEED YOUR FAMILY THAN MINING COAL."

You really need to expand your horizons -

I don't see RAN (Rainaction Forest) exempting other companies other than Massey in their activism.

RAN’s focus is on rainforests and fossil fuels.

FOSSIL FUELS -- not just Massey - that means all coal industry.

Can miners read this? fossil fuels - you're next on the list.

I thought both sides in the debate made good points. However, I doubt either swayed the opinion of anyone on either side.
As someone who grew up in and works in the coalfields, I don't need a lecture on morality from anyone named Kennedy.
I find it funny that a previous writer called Don Blankenship "a snoot". The Kennedy clan practices snobbery in the worst way.(He wants to help the "little people" of WV, my a$$). He wants to pat himself on the back and promote "his project".
Yes, there are other ways to feed a family, but our entire state economy, directly or indirectly, depends on the coal business. Yes there are alternative energy sources, but non are currently as dependable as fossil fuels, like it or not!

I hope coal miners do. Go to the link and look at the video too from the site. Some of you may argue that the mining industry supports WV. It's just not true. Ask the miners that work at Walmart, nursing homes as CNAs, etc. Strip mining has created LESS jobs here for the coal industry. Many welcome a change. Many welcome PERMANENT jobs for WV. Many want to save our heritage. Many want to save communities. Many want to save our beautiful mountains. I am more than proud to say that I care for more than just myself and I welcome the change.

WOW, I have been screeming Labor supportive sentiments, but I have no links, so thanks. These people that actually argue for Massey on hear have no clue about what the real issues are. The support the "establishment" on every issue. Whats funny is, the biggest establishment-government, they now, pretend to hate, because the current majority government actually puts common people ahead of corporation, which is not their principle.
I just cant believe that any West Virginian(stupid to smart), would EVER support ANYTHING that 1 destroys our peoples health 2 destroys our work force 3 destroys our land. MTR is the #1 reason WV is near the top of jobless rates.
