I think Mr. Spann may be overestimating the numbers from these motorcycle rallies.
If Fayetteville's motorcycle rally made $35 million at $87.50 per person, then 400,000 people would have had to attend. That is twice the population of Little Rock, and beats a Razorback game, by a factor of five. 400,000 people in Fayetteville would have been mayhem.
If Mt. View made $1.3 million, then the same average of $87.50 per person would mean almost 15,000 people. That is a third more than the entire population of Stone County. Again, it would have been mayhem.
I think Mr. Spann may be a little optimistic about the success of these motorcycle events.

some of the local bikers, riders and local business have been asking the city of fort smith to cooperate on a bike event for many many moons and certain city leadership has resisted. why? nobody really has an answer but janes hughes with downtown development has always stonewalled the event. odd, isn't it when it fills hotels, fills the eating places, and brings money into the community.

I think the fear is that it might turn into an even like Sturgis. Sturgis is cool, but there is a reason that it is held out in the middle of nowhere.

fort smith has a great police force that could and would control the event but it almost looks like our city leaders don't trust our police to handle the crowd. most of the modern day bikers are medium to high income individuals that behave really well. the city of fort smith needs visitors and this type of event has been needed for a very long time!

Anybody know the number of people reported going to War Eagle and the great yard sale up in NWA every year? Seems like 250,000 or so comes to mind, twice a year is about equal to 7 or so hog football games. Almost a season of home games I think.

I was up there and you couldn't get a room fo miles. People were renting out rooms in thier houses. Bikers were staying as far south as Fort Smith and over to Tulsa. I stayed away from Dixon St. but a friend said it was mess down on Dixon. People were watching motorcycle races in Springdale, concerts at the fair grounds. Car show at North west Mall. One person said ONE Harley business had over 50 employees spending 5-6 days in the area at thier vending areas. IF 400K was there but it was spread out over much larger area and 5-6 days.

I have went to Races in smaller towns with larger
race tracks.. Ennis Texas..population 12,000 people at best with over 25,000 at the track on a Sunday, over 50,000 for three days of the event.
The NASCAR track in Fort Worth when it was good to go over 200,000 on Sunday, 80,000 on Saturday, 35,000 on Friday..Thats over 300,000 people in 3 days.

BBB event nubers could be real numbers or could be blowing smoke up our...who knows but there was a TON of people there.

fort smith will never rise up until we get rid of the dead arses that have absolute control of this city! even the little towns get it because they know how to treat visitors with open arms and fort smith leadership doesn't get it! fort smith leadership motto is "my way or the belly bump"

I agree I have tried to get the city and or CC to see numbers related to automotive or racing events in the area that are now bring in tourist to our area now. Trying to get them helping or working the existing events with promotion. This mite get more people to our town. Nope too far out there for our "people" to understand what is going on.

As one person told me for "new events" get it funded and ready it ready to go and we will "look" at it. So if "they" do not want it in our town, you have lost your money and your time.

Now for the future of our city today lets all go downtown 2-3 times a week and spend 10 minutes looking at a man sitting on a horse and his pet dog...

the "man on a horse" was a payoff for a "yes" vote on the prepared food tax! they would rather spend their time screaming at a person that opened a womens underwear shop downtown than put a little effort in an event that would bring thousands of visitors to fort smith. sad, isn't it and the taxpayers are paying big money to people that are employed to bring in tourists but these clowns expect someone to do it for them!

"payoffs" expensive garbage trucks, expensive sludge trucks, uncollected taxpayer money, untru ups, free taxpayer land, free loans, city contracts, belly bumps, sale of tennis courts, cronyism, no jobs, loss of business, and no tourism is all brought to fort smith by a few of the good ole boys that wanted weak sister gosack in charge. hello patrick and settle and say hi to mr richard too! give me a break! creeps! you guys are about as good for fort smith as a lake full of leeches!

their claim to fame is a visit from a delegation from china that is probably still laughing at the city leadership that can't get out of their own way! too funny! maybe the chinese will put in a plant to manufacture a counterfeit knock-off belly bump toy!
