Parents' Role in Alamo Case is a Tricky Question

Jul 30, 2009 | Posted by: Dyann PACA West- CA | Full story: www.google.com

One by one, the women told the court a similar story. They were "married" Tony Alamo as children or teens, pushed into the unions with the blessings of parents who believed it was the highest honor before God. Federal prosecutors won't say whether any of the parents could face charges. Prosecutor Brent Haltom in Miller County, where Alamo's compound is located, said he has no cases open involving Alamo or parents of the alleged victims.

"I was totally in control of her situation," the woman, a defense witness, said. Prosecutors never got the chance to ask if she knew Alamo had sex with her daughter as she left the stand after claiming Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination. Four of her underage children remain missing after state child-welfare officials obtained an order seeking to put them in protective care.

On the opposite end, some said they felt they had to sacrifice their daughters to appease the man who was master over every aspect of their lives. The mother of a girl Alamo allegedly "married" at age 15 said she was pregnant with another child when Alamo summoned the woman, her husband and their daughter to his house and made the announcement.

Alamo told her God instructed him to take their underage daughter as a "wife," she said. Refusing meant being thrown out of the church, which paid for all of the family's food, clothing and shelter.

The local judges handling the juvenile cases have already exposed reasons which show cause for our prosecutor to be bring charges on the parents.

Failure to protect and failure to educate are both forms of neglect according to the Arkansas Child Abuse Center in Little Rock.

What's Haltom's excuse now? And he wants to be elected a judge? Give us a break!

Well Ill Be! It has been a long time since I've been on these boards!

I am sure that each case will be handled objectively as it pertains to their involvement and willingliness to come forth and come clean. Some parents ARE guilty of abandonment and undying faith to this man and his teachings. Some are so nieve they may sincerly believe no wrong doing inspite of any reports given them. The blanket order that was previously issued to collect children for their protection, was an attempt to have legal authority over them but obviously backfired to some degree because of the very intricated communication system with the church and it's followers is shrouded in secrecy and fear. If some were to come forward with additional information that could lead to further punishment and ultimate dispersement of money and property, I am sure they would turn their backs to have assurances and begin anew.

Take care all -
Proud to see so much effort came to a happy ending for those young women.

Not the first time a voodoo priest lobotomized followers. You got David Koresh, Jim Jones, Warren Jeffs, Joseph Smith, the list goes on and on. But we have rule of law for the greater good of society, for the preservation of the species.

Accountablity for many (especially parents, but caretakers also) in varying degrees nevertheless, according to the law. Let us run it by the state right here. There is first degree aggravated child neglect, next, voluntary child neglect, finally involuntary child neglect (like in that they didn't know the gun was loaded when aimed and pulled the trigger). Mr District atty of the great state of Arkansas, you choose which is most appropriate in each individual case, but please do something, enforce these laws for the sake of those dependant on adult supervision. If an individual owns property with dog fights, or has malnourished animals, he is charged with animal cruely, no excuses. This is more important, Alamo has little else to do now cept work on his kool aid order. And he only gets two phone calls a day, how can he discipline his flock with that!

I am not sure what to think about people that gave up their daughters fearing tony would jerk the rug out from under them. When I had my disagreement with tony 20 years ago, I could have cared less about the consequences. As you could imagine I was given a ride out of the outfit. Money? Well I had fifty dollars tony gave me. After 18 years of service you gotta get something. A place to go and live? Nope. The only place I had to go was "Outside." I tell you one thing I did have; "dignity."

Wake up current foundation folks. I am not your judge (neither is tony). However if you really have some dignity; it is time to pack up and leave. After the trial, how effective will you be as a Christian? Most of your time will be spent explaining tony.

personally I will do everything in my power to see that he is never elected as anything. He refused to listen or do anything when told about the cult. He made the statement that "Ya'll just don't like the way they worship". I'm sure now he wishes he could take that statement back.

Would you all believe it if you were told the truth, that the horrors were done in secret? Would you all believe the heartbreak and confusion the parents are facing who are still there? Would you believe that they are the finest, honest, most God-fearing people you ever met? I know them all, and they are good people stuck in the most horrifying position imaginable.

People who beat little children, do it because they have begun to like it. A grown woman who reads scripture to a little girl while she is being raped by "their spiritual husband" is mentally sick.

God gave us all free will and common sense.

Yes, I would believe it in a heartbeat, out. But I'd hafta hear it to believe it. They haven't told the truth, haven't said anything but that alamo is innocent and persecuted by the Pope.

They have all known for a year now that tony was arrested for child molestation. Have had opportunity to at least investigate, question and tell the truth of what they do know. What have you heard from these parents since his arrest for these horrific crimes against children,'out'?

Any concern on their part for the children, victims, that they may have possibly been raped or are in danger ? They don't arrest w/o just suspicion, probable cause and provable evidence. DHS does not remove children unless they can legally support justification in a court room.

All those parents saw all these actions. Did or said nothing. All anyone has heard from them is alamo support. You would investigate and get involved, out, if any of these legal activities occurred where you live.

At least offered and tole all information you might be in position to know that might help save children from possible rape. That is how innocent people respond, out. They check out everything they can, and do whatever they can to help child victims.

What details do you know, out, that all the horrors were done in secret. And these parents could have offered or done nothing the help stop this pedophile rapist when they had chance or where asked ?

If you are correct as you believe, then now it should be no problem for them to tell the truth and end all possibility of abuse continuing in his doctrine. alamo is in prison for the rest of his life, now a convicted pedophile. There is no excuse left now for not speaking up w/ all truth.

When the Great Depression hit in the 1930's and FDR was elected he coined the memorable slogan, "All we have to fear, is fear itself." Quite self explanatory. In the 1990's the 'daredevil' skateboarding community coined, "NO FEAR."

In my limited experience, and the grand scheme of the Alamo agenda took that foundation total belief system into, "all we have to fear is Tony Alamo, or what he says, and every one of his words, which is the truth."

Outside, what is the last year you were inside? It is hard to believe, but not entirely for some there. A secretive dumbing down process within the confines. Back in the day bros would seek aloofness (up to the 80's) to stay off the map, under the radar to rather not know. But, for how many was the blood hidden from beatings? Battered faces kept under wraps until healing? Older bros wed (in non weddings) down with preteenagers and a changing of the guard for Tonys entourage from hulking enforcers to young girls, appearing as 'groupies.' Seems so glaring,.. Outside.

But I will say, in analogy, in any given neighborhood, apartment complex, etc., sexual deviants, and even serial killers have sometimes covered their tracks well enough to go unoticed for years, secretive, chameleonlike, able to blend in. Are we under the mistaken perception that Alamo did not even try too hard hide his horror show even to the public? As he bragged about his affections on public radio airwaves? It seemed much out in the open, correct me how I am wrong, please.

The many who are "still there" as you say, had much more opportunity from the inside to do and speak and do than you or I, from the outside. They knew when he got arrested, but did nothing. And still do nothing, with that kind of absolute usable apathy, it will happen again, w/ them claiming once again they knew nothing about it.

Why are these many not telling DHS where their cult has hidden children from protection from rape and beating if they are now horrified as you claim? alamo is not the only one that beats kids and has sex w/ minors in there. They know this cult still goes on, why do they stay in it, "still there" ?

If you are telling the truth when you state they "had no prior knowledge" and are now truly horrified, these people would be screaming to everyone they could, to get these children protected. They have knowledge now that kids get raped and beat on a regular basis in that cult. No one has heard a peep out of any current cult member. Other than lying support in court and on the internet.

You know them well enuff to state your presentation as fact. Tell them to do something now. Speak up, go immediately to authorities and tell all that they know. There are cases still pending, and many children still in danger of these same horrors.

As a parent, if I knew what Hoffman was doing, I would have sharpened my knife and prepared for the consequences of the governments mutilation charge. Done my time, but the pedophile would have had to find another stiff proposition other than "viagr-" to use for his penetration of eight year olds. In my heart, I feel the parents did not know and were fearful for real, so my sympathy and my heart goes out to them.....OB
