Correct. He is a crappy optometrist and person. I can only imagine him as a president of a graduate school. What qualification or experience does he have, other than fitting people with the right prescriptions?("Can you read out the letters from the chart, ma'am?"haha) My dog Henry could (and has) done that plenty of times.

p.s. Chicken Sammich, you is funny dawg, haha. That shiz cracks me up :)

Too bad the jealous people aren't smart enough to go to professional school and make something out of themselves. Go crawl back under your rock and continue to shit in your bucket.

First of all, are you saying that all people in Buchanan County who don't have a professional degree "live under a rock and shit in buckets"? I think this is highly demeaning to most of the population (probably even the person who wrote it).

Second, There is a BIG difference in being jealous and being pissed off. I am not a bit jealous. But I am big time pissed off that our taxpayer money is being wasted so wastefully, and to whose benefit?

Refreshin' my memory again, how many optometrists are there in Buchanan County?

Can't wait to see how much more money the supervisors give them. Can't even get water to my house so if my supervisor gives them money and I still don't have water then we are voting them out.

Amen to that. No water for our area either. Guess it's more important to rent more apartments.

Oh, I can read alright. I can read pretty damn good.:) I can read books and i can read people and political situations for what they really are.

What'cha talkin' bout, "go empty your bucket"? Most literate ppl, for the record, would elaborate what the hell they were talkin bout'. What are you talkin' bout, tellin' me to go empty my bucket?

I might just empty out my shit bucket on your face! You can then tell me how good or bad my diet is, because everything I ate the past few days will be in brown recycled form on your eyes, nose, lips, forehead, ect. Maybe after you analyze the fecal matter properly, you will have to go to Dr. Looney's office because everything you see will turn brown and lumpty.

We had a empty town, empty buildings, and empty streets. Nothing was going on in or around the town. The schools have brought in what little money that has been brought into the county in the last few years. If the county had not started the schools we would still be a dead empty town.

I don't care if you live under a rock or where, if you have any get up and go about you the schools are there for you, your children and even your grandchildren.

So, get off your ass and help the town and county grow. Oh, that would take work other than running your mouth.

We did have an empty town, but do you remember before that?? Once upon a time it wasn't empty... The schools did bring dolla's in the county, but the politicians ran out the business's that were here to "flood proof" the town and soon after the politicians who were really pushing for this left town aswell....

Well in doing so they strangled the financial income of taxes to the county... I remember when they were "working" downtown the only business that was open paying taxes to the town was Italian Village... However before they started tearing buildings down there was a few business's in downtown...
now in retrospect does it seem like a waste of money to bring down mountains to make room for walmart and a four lane a crappy one(s) at that... Or would it have been cheaper to remodel or even rebuild some of those old buildings for new ventures to come in??? Now we're just filling our county full of schools?? Schools take time to gain accreditation, do you think kids coming from Illinois is gonna come here get a law degree and go back to a place like Chicago and say I graduated from "ASL" and them be able to recognize the school?? answer is nope they'll most likely have to stay in Virginia to take a position, now i dunno so much about the Pharmacy school but seems like i heard that they were having problems with accreditation or something to that extent..

So our answer to removing/running off business, is just making it a college town?? Wtf, we are no college town... and if we want to be we are gonna have to start serving liquor by the drink....

Would you like to know more?

Do you really think flood proofing is what killed our town? It was the coal mining owners who worked our men to the ground and took their money and left town, no one put any of the big coal money back into our county.

What big industy is going to come here? These schools have given us a start. Lets go with it.
I really don't understand what is wrong with being a college town. Things grow from things that are growing, not from the dead town and county that was here after the coal boom.

the flood proofing twisted the knife that was already in the heart of the county

there is no room to grow in buchanan county... the mountain sides wont let us

coal has be raped of the county but adding douba's coming in from outta town is not the answer

You know - we could have built an adequate floodwall without buying up and destroying what was the left side of of town (as going toward KY). Hard to get traction on that one, nobody important gets bought out and would have to work their Daddy's store like their Daddy did.

There was plan after plan to do just that ... but they couldn't get the "political" support to get them passed. We could have had New Grundy in the 70's if there were not so much resistance.

That may be somewhat true, but in the 70's if the coal boom money had been put back into the town and county instead of going to Abingdon and Florida we might not have had the problem of a dieing town in the first place. But it wasn't, so
if it takes being a college town to put some life back into the county and town Thank God for it.

We can't keep looking back, we need to look forward. I hope other business' come to the county but it takes time for anything to grow.

Well, Citizen Kane, from hhhhmmmm...South Carolina....ah right, exactly how do you expect a BUCHANAN COUNTY SUPERVISOR to get you water? In your bucket right? If you are going to dog a man, be man enough to at least admit where you are from.

South Carolina...nice state...but not close.

I'm from a multigeneration family in the county for over 150 years on the opposite end of the county. I do like the beach though...

BTW, since "public" water is well..."public" and comes from the Public Service Authority (PSA) which is county run with county funds I just naturally thought that somehow a BC supervior would influence what funds go where.

Please let me know if they have privatized the PSA and I will contact that company directly and leave our elected officials alone to spend tax revenue on other pet projects.

How does someone become president of a school when they have never even been a teacher? I don't know him, nor much about him. I just don't understand how he got the job.

The accreditation issue is huge. The College needs to attract the people who know how to build a strong academic foundation so the college can be accredited. The students will add to the economy and help the county's taxpayers.
