New Findings on Makeup of Universe May Spawn Research

There are 1 comment on the Newswise story from Jul 16, 2013, titled New Findings on Makeup of Universe May Spawn Research. In it, Newswise reports that:

New areas of extragalactic study may emerge from research by University of Alabama in Huntsville astrophysicists using data from the Chandra Space Telescope to conclude that baryons making up all visible matter - once thought to be missing from clusters - are present in the expected ratios in large, luminous clusters.

About time too.

In this case it is hot gas radiating @ a wavelength that makes it difficult to see.

In our part of the world in a galaxy group there is still baryonic matter but in this case it is not only diffuse but relatively cold. Again it is going to be difficult to see. We only notice the cold stuff in our neighbourhood because dwarf galaxies speeded up by gravitational interactions with big spirals get ram stripped by it. The same dark matter & its mass tends to collide & condense into classical dense gas in the arms of reasonably large spiral galaxies which will grow with time if left relatively undisturbed.

Nice to see the dark matter problem is being addressed logically. Also note that a fair chunk of dark matter is still being missed. You are probably sitting on a large chunk of cold dark matter reading this right now,(it is only warm because of its close proximity to the star in the centre of the solar system). A fair quantity of the mass of our galaxy is likely in the form of chunks of baryons ranging from asteroids to globules of H & He from the early years of the galaxy orbiting in the halo of up to brown dwarf mass. Note, free gas giant planets & brown dwarves will not live long in the galactic disc on a circular orbit as a result of them being "dumped on" during passage through a cold GMC & emergence out of the other side as a * so they will only be long lived when passing through on a halo orbit.

Have a nice day: Ag
