"Don't ask, don't tell" critics codemn biased Military Times poll

There are 7 comments on the www.advocate.com story from Nov 20, 2009, titled "Don't ask, don't tell" critics codemn biased Military Times poll. In it, www.advocate.com reports that:

"Don't ask, don't tell" critics are condemning a new Military Times -sponsored poll that could provide ammunition to antigay forces - however flawed the resulting data may be.

The new survey asks respondents whether they’ve been subject to sexual advances by gay soldiers, followed by questions about DADT. The poll is not based on a random sample, but instead solicits responses from Military Times readers.

"Yeah, this dude keeps looking at me in the shower and keeps pretending to bump into me by accident. I know he wants to rape me."

I'm sure that's the kind of garbage they are trying to solicit with their poll. Never mind that the guy doing the looking is ugly and clumsy and may have bumped into the other one due to the latter and is looking at him to see how he needs to look to get girls.

Does this poll even make sense??? Is a gay service member going to make sexual advances on another when that service member is in the closet? This poll just doesn't add up in my opinion. If a gay service member were to make sexual advances on someone and that person reported the incident then their military career would be over. This is like the defense of "well the gay person made advances on me so I beat him up" in gay bashings where we all know gay people do not make sexual advances in these types of situations.

I don't read that publication. Have they done similar polls asking female service members about the incidence of "friendly forces" rapes?
