The abject hubris coming from UCR leadership is appalling. They specifically are going to exclude the actual area property owners/homeowners from any planning or discussion of this project which will destroy our ability to freely move in our community for "school spirit" and concerts. More burglaries, duis, petty theft, assaults, traffic collisions will happen. The city and UCR couldn't care less about how much they destroy this community.

I think this is a good idea. More events more income. The city can afford to hire more security in the area.

"Abject hubris?" This is a great idea. Are you concerned about local businesses and homes? The people leading this project aren't tyrants. They're planning for the relocation of major businesses. UCR Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Wickstrom was quoted in an article ( http://blog.pe.com/jim-alexander/2012/05/15/c... ) as saying,

"“What people don’t understand is that in either the parking structure (acrossCanyon Crest Blvd.) or the front of the C-Center, we want to try to come up with retail spots to accommodate new businesses or existing businesses...There’s two different opportunities, one to put it on a storefront on the arena, or if we build a parking structure across the street to put it on ground level. That way people can get something to eat and then walk across the street. It just depends on how the program is set up.”

The city and UCR DO care about the community. That's why they want to improve the area so the campus can actually have D-1 facilities and inspire more events/performers/fun to come to Riverside.
