I can't even think of one recent,top ten hit,of any genre,that features piano.Not even in Country music,long a bastion of two-fisted,barrel house
ivory solos;the electric guitar now dominates.
One of the problems not adressed in the article
is the difficulty in recording a piano ,which requires at the least 3 microphones as well as a decent sounding room, and the advent of the digital studio, which requires less space. Most often than not, these new studios only have a vocal booth, with the "band" ,including drums ,"programed" on the computer.Quite sad to witness
in my lifetime,as the piano is a very beautiful instrument to behold.Maybe now with the prices plummeting, even I might be able to afford one !
I'll probably have to learn to tune it myself, since that occupation will also surely fall by the wayside.
