Full story: Daily Breeze

Mikah Maly-Karros dream of playing at nearby Loyola Marymount University was shattered in part because of what she called anything but due to plain immaturity on her part.

Hm, I heard a bit of a different story.....

Maly-Karros got kicked off the team and had her scholarship revoked because of a partying and drinking problem. What's up with that, Daily Breeze? No mention of this?

Nice try with using ADD as an excuse, though.

Do not put blame on LMU, colleges are suppose to teach kids discipline that they can use later in life. I am pretty sure she would have flourish in LMU if she decided to stay at the school and be a team player and follow the rules.

Now, it makes UCI looks bad, it sounds that the school let's her run around like in high school.

I hope she wakes up to being a team member. I watched 3 years of MCHS girls basketball. She and Richardson were rude and selfish players. The coach did not teach them to be anything other than the stars of that team.

Maybe she's right, she's learned her lesson. But I think I'll have to wait a long time for that fairytail to come true.

It does not matter how great you were in high school, once you get to college you find out that every player on the team was great in high school. That is why they are playing at the college level. This is especially true at D-1 programs. Some players just can't make the transition from being the star and the coach's pet to being just another player. It is also hard for a freshman to get playing time when there are upper classmen that already have college experience on the team. You also have to prove yourself to the coach who has to pick from a number of former high school stars competing for playing time. That is when many players quit, transfer, or buckle from the stress. And by the way, high school coaches do not help prepare good players for the next level by always catering to them and treating them special. They get spoiled and then can't handle playing at the college level.

Nice! Don't you think it time to move on? Who needs to grow up now (MCHS)? Richardson's father.

Hopefully both young women will learn what team work is. I blame the coach more than anything else. My favorite was when the girls danced over to the Redondo Beach fans and made fun of them. That was a great show of class.

You forgot to mention that the Redondo fans were taunting the Costa players all year long, and that Costa hadn't beaten Redondo in 3+ years.

Mikah will be fine at UC Irvine. Sometimes relationships just don't work. LMU and Mikah just didn't mesh.

Sounds like you skirted the entire core of the issue that she was experiencing (drinking/partying) and came up with a nice clean excuse for your teammate! They taught responsibility and teamwork when I went and played at Costa! Too bad they are not still teaching those value, or this story may never have been written.

Ah ok, now I see where it all comes from. Very mature sir, very mature. Another good example! Typical elitist attitude I would expect but hate to see from another Mustang family.

Um fyi.....Redondo fans have been taunting Costa players for many many many years, and vice versa. That's why its called a rivalry. Sorry to tell you, but it started long before you and your classmates arrived on the scene.
As a former Costa athlete, I am saddened to see such a story and even more saddened to see that Costa hasn't really changed all that much. Manhattan kids still think they invented the school and everything that goes with it.
