Not surprising. But we all know what mixed-race means when somebody is mixed with black......ask our President.

Does that mean they'll identify as mixed instead of black? I don't blame them!

I normally don't respond to you're posts because they're always, mean, racist and stupid but I saw your name and knew you'd say something racist against Black people even though the article was just about Black people. And of course you didn't disappoint me and left your racist remark. You're a loser and if you have ANY friends do they realize what a racist a-hole you are?? Just wondering d-bag.

Some will also identify as multiracial instead of just saying they are white or whatever else. Being mixed or biracial doesn't automatically mean the person has black in them.

Self-identified mixed/biracial people is the fastest growing demographic in the country. This of course is mostly due to interracial relationships, but many AA and most Latinos who don't self-identify as mixed race could easily do so. If you use an arbitrary number like say 25% admixture of some other "race" then mixed race people would easily be the largest minority group in the country, and will soon be the majority.

It infuriates me "mixed people" of black and white heritage want their own box, it takes money away from the black community and alienates them even more. I am biracial raised by two black parents. I have never met my white mother, and identify myself as being black. The more mixed people try to create their own race, the less power blacks have. Think about it. What if every "mixed person" chose black? There would be more money appropriated to public inner city schools, and other good programs. Now, all they can say is well...there is no need for these minority programs..not enough blacks/latinos..etc..This need to be somethin different We need to stick together and have unity. We used to have no choice in slavery days, but now, all these choices There is no race for hispanics, so 50 percent of them choose white on the census..wtf?...

You are right. Blacks (yes even biracial blacks) dislike of being black is being exploited and that is the goal. Self-hatered is a mighty powerful thing. Stay strong baby, stay intelligent and strong! We need more like you.

I think it is a good thing for those who aren't ashamed of their biracial/multiracial heritage. They should be allowed to select all races that apply bc that is what they are.

This for sure. Their numbers will increase heavily. But it's utterly stupid not to have 'biracial'/'multiracial' as an option in this year's census, yet as 'race' one can find Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Thai, & what not -- which are notoriously nationalities.

Put your mind @ ease. Mixed-race people will take over all other groups in less than 20 years, just like in Brazil or DR. Your case is your case, not all 'biracials' are Mulattoes like yourself. If you wanna discuss a subject first learn to differentiate between basic terms. People will choose what they really feel who they are. Most of biracials & multiracials don't need to scum any money outta gov't anyway. This whole census is a nonsensical crap, which favorizes Whites & Blacks & penalizes all other groups in America. smh

I was watching a tyra banks video on youtube a while back. She had a group of biracial woman on her show. This is what had me saying WTF. The biracial women on the show did not like to identify themselves as black or "ghetto" as one woman on the show said.(You should have seen all the black girls faces. LOL.) Anyways, the women identified themselves as a seperate race. They considered themselves "BROWN." Some of the women even considered themselves latina because of their skin color even though they were half black. smh.

Mixed race who have black ancestory should be free to call themselves whatever they like without being dictated to by blacks. If blacks wanted black children, they should marry or breed with other blacks. It is ridiculous for blacks to marry out and then expect the children to call themselves black.

I think how you're raised has a lot to do with how you self-identify. I know many biracial black/white people on the east coast and all of them see themselves as AA. I'm also raising two biracials sons to see themselves as AA. Of course they will know about their Italian side as well.

It's good to let them know about both sides of the family instead of them growing up being prejudice to one side and favoring the other. There is nothing wrong with biracial people. I have biracial family members. I just don't like how some biracial people will favor sides. If they identify themselves as white that's ok. Black? that's ok too. Just don't be prejudice to half of what you are.

What's ridiculous is to not give a child the understanding and appreciation of BOTH sides of their heritage. It's about the PARENTING. Parents, no matter WHAT they are, need to do a better job of instilling the basic concepts of identity to their children.

I don't think it's prejudice, it's socialization. My sons look AA and they have "black blood", so it's natural to raise them as part of the AA community, because that's what the AA is, and what the Italian community isn't. If the world sees you differently than how you see yourself I think you could be headed for trouble, so it's important to be practical about these things.

I think a biracial or multiracial person has the right to identify with all sides of his/her heritage. He or she should not have to choose which side to favor. All sides are equally important.
