By Kathy Keatley Garvey Special to Dixon Patch Seven college scholarships totaling $12,500 will be awarded this year by Friends of the Dixon May Fair to Solano County students planning a career in agriculture or an agriculturally-related field.

This is a great program. I was surprised to see Charlie Hamilton's name on the list from last year. I'm sure he was deserving as a student, but financially he didn't need the help. Maybe for future endowments they could somehow lean more towards the kids thank need the help while still recognizing the top performers in another manner.

I love this program, as well! Also, I agree with you that it would be even more meaningful to award students who are in true need of financial help. Many students who compete and earn money in 4-H and FFA programs are doing so not only for the experience, but to add to their college fund.
