Seeing Eye Dogs will also benefit from this stem cell breakthrough, they also get old and blind. So let's not forget to include Man's Best Friend in this research.

On the other hand it looks like this news was printed to attract more grants and private contributions to the research labs. Sort of like preemptive job security

That seems to be a dead link by now.

Currently there are clinical trials for age-related macular degeneration taking place by Dr. Lanza, but unfortunately they're very limited.

How i'm rooting for a time when stem cells might be in universal format (universal stem cells) so that anyone can easily attain them, the way you buy aspirin, and either pop a pill, or self-inject (the way diabetics do) and the Cells would be smart enough to know exactly where to travel within the body for repair.

Perhaps guided magnetically, for example, wherever the body's electric field is detected as "weak".

I think the future is looking good for suffers of all types of disease as stem cell research improves, but that is for the future. As far as AMD is concerned it is still incurable so prevention has to be given a high priority especially those people in the "at risk" groups./ m/

It's a fallacy that AMD is still incurable. Rather, advances are being thwarted by the die-hard establishment.

Otherwise why would my dad's eye doctor have even "mumbled" about the possibility of stem cells helping my dad?(he's in his 90's and blind with AMD)

In Queretaro Mexico they are using stem cells to cure some incurable eyes diseases, with excellent results, some US citizens have been treated since two years ago, you may find more information in the internet.
