Flawed science.

For the most part, straights won't admit when they are caught up in their own machismo competitions. Giving it a name like "homophobia" disposes of the problem without addressing it. The "scientists" are exhibiting the same pathology but are dumping the decision on politicians. In phase 2, others exploit the normalized status to make money off of it in the name of political correctness.

...and politicians immediately let the tail wag the dog.

A person does not have to engage in gay sex to decide they don't want to engage in it. They have years of childhood experience to guide them before they ever even get the urge.

Some people are vigilante bashers for other reasons. Most people are just inventing ways to dodge the irrational rules of projecting masculinity.
