More evidence of religion's decline

Dec 6, 2011 Full story: blog.case.edu 58

The Institute for the Study of Secularism in Society & Culture at Trinity College surveys the religious views of Americans and their latest ARIS (American Religious Identification Survey) report done in 2008 found the following:

86% of American adults identified as Christians in 1990 and 76% in 2008.

The challenge to Christianity in the U.S. does not come from other religions but rather from a rejection of all forms of organized religion.

The "Nones" (no stated religious preference, atheist, or agnostic) continue to grow, though at a much slower pace than in the 1990s, from 8.2% in 1990, to 14.1% in 2001, to 15.0% in 2008.

Based on their stated beliefs rather than their religious identification in 2008, 70% of Americans believe in a personal God, roughly 12% of Americans are atheist (no God) or agnostic (unknowable or unsure), and another 12% are deistic (a higher power but no personal God).

In 2008 one in five adults does not identify with a religion of any kind compared with one in ten in 1990. Full Story

Well this is no surprise at all. My generation, the Y generation, is the most atheistic/non-religious generation of American generation ever. The next generation will be even more atheistic/non-religious. Religion will probably become extinct in America some time in 21st century. I can't wait for the day when American politics are free of religious nonsense so we can concentrate on the real issues.

I just realized something.

If 12% of Americans are atheist/agnostic and 12% are deistic that would mean 24% of Americans are non-religious, yet it says only 15% of Americans are nonreligious.

Do those figures come from a single study or more than one? Which studies are you looking at?

At any rate, the obvious answer to wat's question is that not all deists have no stated religious preference. Also, if you read closely, you'll see that one stat is based on religious identification, the other on stated beliefs.

That shows that within each of those identification categories, there is a range of beliefs and that the beliefs in some intersect with those of others. Many who do not believe in God or are less than certain do not self identify as atheists or agnostics.

As in all statistics, the results vary with the way the questions are asked, which is why careful phrasing is a crucial component of designing a study.

Agreed-- at least in the sense that these are unwilling to force their own religious views onto others, but would back a purely secular style of government.

In fact? I would wager the figures of folk who want to keep separation between government and religion, is above 50% of the population.

The majority understand the serious problem with allowing one religion to control government's policies:

Any other religion (or non-religion) gets proverbial shaft, and sooner than later.

Look at Bushy 2's policies of allowing religion to encroach into government policy, with his "faith based initiative" illegal programs:

Only the religions that Bushy >>approved<< of, could participate, to the detriment of all other groups, including all other religious groups.

And, fortunately, the majority can see >>that<< at least.

Religions are responsible for the confusion and problems mankind is enduring. Christian religions are a mish mash of churches governed by individuals whose main concern is making money and having the most parishoners or the biggest Church.

Religion has always been a lucrative business for individuals who know how to act and speak saying what people want to hear, pacifying their egos and building their esteem, rather than preaching God's word and directing them to adjust their thinking and conduct to God's will to be done on earth today.

The true Religion and true Christians are to be no part of this world's politics or issues that govern mankind in any way.

They would be peacemakers and would not go to war or involved in any way with bloodshed. Any person or religion that is involved in this worlds politics is not acceptable to Jehovah God or his reigning King Jesus.

God's heavenly Government or Kingdom is now reigning over mankind, you have to choose what government you will obey and serve for your everlasting life in paradise.

(Revelation 20:14-15). . .And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire. 15 Furthermore, whoever was not found written in the book of life was hurled into the lake of fire.

Understanding the Scriptures is not difficult, you just need to be humble and open to the truth of God's word.

Jehovah God is still allowing mankind the time needed to bring their lives into harmony with his will. Free Bible study is available from Jehovah's witnesses, have all your questions answered from your copy of the Bible.

Israel was forced to pay the consequences for their unfaithfulness, mankind today is also facing terrible tribulation for their refusal to obey God's word as Jesus taught his followers.

Only true Christians will survive Armageddon, now is the time to read and study your Bible before it is too late, Jehovah God and his reigning King Jesus Christ does not want anyone to be destroyed.

(2 Peter 3:9-10) 9 Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance.

Uh huh. And what were the European Jews paying for when their numbers were reduced by 63% from 1933 to 1945? Given the ways of the Bible God, such a visitation could only come at His behest no matter what earthly hand carried it out. Your post and your religion is an abomination in the sight of all who see with their own eyes, hear with their own ears, and , more importantly, think with their own minds.

Are deists religious? I don't think deists are religious. And adding up the number of atheists/agnostics/deists that gives a grand total of 24%. Yet the number of non-religious at 15%. That would suggest the number of non-religiousness in America is a lot higher.
