I second that Wow. Dave, man, take a chill, you could easily have a heart attack with all that anger and stress going on. I glanced over your ramblings and again all I can do is the same thing Mike did. Goodness, where in the heck did you come from? Out of nowhere, the bashing begins or wait, did we instigate this with you too. Ive never seen you here before. Good luck with whatever you are doing in your life.

[Dave,
Yes, people can die from just about anything. Comparing death by water poisining to death by methadone is ridiculous. Maybe people are becoming dissatisfied with methadone because it is well on its way to becoming the number one cause of drug related deaths. You keep saying if the clinics get shut down then people will be forced to go back to a life of illegal drugs and crime. I'm so sick of hearing that argument. No one has to go back to illegal activities or drugs. You make that choice. If I was able to successfully come off methadone anyone can. I'm sorry but I'm sick of all the excuses from different pro-methadone people that they have a deficiency and will need to be on it for life. I'm sick of the argument where people compare diabetics who need there insulin to addicts who need there methadone. No one said it would be easy to live a drug free life but it certainly is possible. Your posts make you sound scared. You shouldn't be, you'll be okay if it ever comes down to banning methadone. It will take hard work and commitment but you'll be okay.

I agree with all you poste~~!!
You would be welcomed over on the methadone sucks(people against methadone only) thread, as well as a few other's since you have successfully quit methadone and live to tell about it.
My son was among the thousands that to date were not that lucky. Methadone killed him April 7, 2007 at age 30 leaving behind a wife and 3 children as well as myself, his mother who misses him terribly daily.
Thank you again for your post!!

This is my first time posting on this website, however after reading the past few entries I felt compelled to write.

All drugs are dangerous. Whenever we introduce a foreign substance into our body we are "taking a risk". The reality however is that we all respond differently to everything.

To say that methadone kills is equivalent to saying that asprin kills. All drugs kill when used inappropriately.

The reality remains that methadone is comparable to insulin. When used under a doctors supervision in a supportive and nurturing environment, methadone is extremely effective at providing a resource that some people need in order to be productive members of society.

In any debate people are going to approach topics differently. We are all only as good as our experiences have allowed. That being said, ideally even if we can't see eye-to-eye we can learn from one another's experiences. Methadone is highly effective when abused appropriately.

NYC tried to ban methadone in 1999. Within 6 months the mayor publicly acknowledged his mistake and misguided efforts and reopened all of the clinics he closed.

For a scientific understanding of why methadone is effective, check out this article: www.nida.nih.gov/pdf/perspectives/vol1no1/03p...

Take care-

"When used under a doctors supervision in a supportive and nurturing environment, methadone is extremely effective at providing a resource that some people need in order to be productive members of society."

Rather than saying "need" a better way would have been to say that methadone enables individuals to accomplish more than they would otherwise.

Again, as in other threads.. I just don't understand this mentality...

People abuse pain clinics. Does that mean that the people who use the pain clinics to make their life liveable and productive should be denied access to them?

People abuse methadone. Does that mean that the people who use the methadone clinics to make their life liveable and productive should be denied access to them?

People abuse alcohol. Does that mean that the people who have a glass of wine or a drink on special occassions ahould be denied access to them?
