Okay, long hair or short, it doesn't really matter to me. I recently had it done.

It works for me

it's not a religious thing so much with me, but in an altercation there's no hair pulling, that's for sure.

Well, that's the point. Why shouldn't we get what we want int is trivial area? Long or short hair, does it really matter? As long as it's not some sort of health hazard, I'm cool with it.... but as a social stigmata?- I couldn't disagree more.

But I understand about wanting to go down south with the Indians. The one's I've know are more easy going about those things.
I don't really care about suits and ties either, but I know with some people it's a religion.

When in Rome - as long as they don't ask me to cut off my head or anything.

Have a happy labor day.

To most people a haircut style is a fad. To the Native American it's a spiritual tradition.
Why should an Indian forego his tradition to suit the white man's fad???
Get real.
This is what I'm talking about. This makes perfect sense to me, and i can totally respect you for it. You Should get what you want - what's important to you is not trivial. Tribal traditions, history, uplifting the beauty of your culture, the memory of the noble and heartful who came before you. Nothing wrong with that.

I personally don't want to forget the Indian culture. Too much beauty in it. It serves as an reminder, sometimes an annoying reminder to some that there is more to life than money or personal gain.

These noble people will make a comeback along with other unfairly crushed peoples.
God will be with them and I'll be cheering.:^]

Trail of teers was not God's perfect will, you can bet on that. It was a deceiving oppression. There was No love nor help nor hope in in what these oppressors tried to do to them.
Thank God they didn't succeede.

Happy Labor day. Live free, at least lovingly free in your hearts.---

I'm on the side of the child and his family. The length of his hair IS unimportant to me, just as it is not my business if a little girl had a buzzcut. I support his family's right to their tradition :0)

You're right and the length of hair should be the unimportant matter in this little tempest in a teacup.

Song Title: Flowers are red
Album: Legends Of The Lost & Found
[B u y " Legends Of The Lost & Found " CD]

(Spoken)Your son marches to the beat of a different drummer, comma,
(Spoken)But don't worry,
(Spoken)We'll have him joining the parade by the end of the term

The little boy went first day of school
He got some crayons and started to draw
He put colors all over the paper
For colors was what he saw
And the teacher said.. What you doin' young man
I'm paintin' flowers he said
She said... It's not the time for art young man
And anyway flowers are green and red
There's a time for everything young man
And a way it should be done
You've got to show concern for everyone else
For you're not the only one

And she said...
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen

But the little boy said...
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

Well the teacher said.. You're sassy
There's ways that things should be
And you'll paint flowers the way they are
So repeat after me.....

And she said...
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen

But the little boy said...
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. It's for your own good..
And you won't come out 'til you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head
And he went up to the teacher
And this is what he said.. and he said

Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen

Time went by like it always does
And they moved to another town
And the little boy went to another school
And this is what he found
The teacher there was smilin'
She said...Painting should be fun
And there are so many colors in a flower
So let's use every one

But that little boy painted flowers
In neat rows of green and red
And when the teacher asked him why
This is what he said.. and he said

Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen.

But there still must be a way to have our children say ...

There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

Thank you for this link Heart, I've always liked Harry Chapin but never heard this song. I've downloaded it and with that I'm out of here. I'm tired of people harping that you can't get a proper education if you don't have the right haircut. Ridiculous isn't it? Best to all.

And the "old tradition" would be that men have short hair, and women long. In the modern world I live in, hair length varies, and is no longer bound by the old- fashioned, and often sexist traditions of the past.

Such as? This is a CULTURAL RELIGIOUS ISSUE, not about arbitrarily wearing blue jeans or not. I went to a Catholic school with a strict dress code that simply stated no visible tattoos but they still allowed Henna because they recognized the cultural nature of such. They didn't even have to considering they were privately funded but they did because they also preached religious and cultural tolerance.

I believe than all white men should be forced to grow their hair long, as the Native Americans were here first...Forcing someone to give up their culture and heritage for "progress" goes against the principle this country was founded on.

More on Hair

Scott McKenzie - San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair) Lyrics

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

This is the worst thing i have heard in a LONG LONG time, Whats wrong with this modern world?
i have Long-ish hair, im a boy, i see nothing wrong with it as long as its Kept in Fairly good condition. Yes Boys with long hair will and Do get bullied at school, but i put up with it and didn't change because someone stereotyped me, Don't listen to people's opinion, just Do what you believe. If he wants Hair let him have it!
