Tech Problems

United States

#1 Sep 7, 2012
No one ever listens much to the critics of Tech, who are often its most loyal fans. Many of us think that the key to many problems, including low attendance at sports events, is the chancellor, Kent Hance. It wasn't so much that he fired Mike Leach but the way he did it. Hance and the regents drained Leach for every thing they could get from him before firing him a day before they had to pay him his well-earned bonus. The hiring of recently-fired coaches (Bobby Knight, Tommy Tuberville, Billy Gillispie) reflects the desperation of Tech management. Budding stars, such as Dana Holgerson and Art Briles, are still using Tech as a stepping stone to better things.

Look for Reality to come crashing down on the ears of blindly-loyal TTU football fans tomorrow as they meet the Texas State Bobcats, this time on their home turf. TSU is that underrated team that led Tech 10-0, at TTU, until the third quarter in 2011, and they have most of their starters back. Figure in their easy win over Houston last week, and you have an upset in the making. Look for the overrated, "run and shoot," QB Doege to do "his thing" and throw a couple of I's in key situations.

One can look at the rosters and see that TSU is doing some fine recriuiting, out of State, as well as in-State. Tech players' alarming number of disciplinary problems bespeak their overall character and leadership. I hope I'm wrong, but I say, TSU by 12.

Tech QB Seth Doege was back to his old tricks last night. His bad play in the first quarter put Tech in a hole that they did not really get out of until late in the second half. The D carried Tech in this game. Last year Doege played real well against OU, as Tech beat them in Norman, only to come home and get blown out by a mediocre Iowa State team, 41-7. If Tech can't get over the emotional roller coasters of the Big 12 and be ready to play every Saturday from here on out, they could still end up with a losing season.
