How much you want to bet the NRA contributes to State Sen. Jeff Wentworth's campaign fund?
After all, just how stupid of an idea is this? If guns on campus are a problem, how are more guns on campus going to solve that problem? It's like taking heroin to solve a cocaine addiction.

Current population of Texas approximately 24 million. Current number of CHLs, approximatley 314,574. Percent of population .0131.
UT Austin, enrollment 50 thousand. Even ignoring variables like out-of-state CCW numbers and students under 21 years old. Total number of legal handguns on Austin campus if law passes = about 650.
So what ?! Not going to make a difference one way or the other.

it may save lives, someone may be less prone to go on a rampage knowing people in class are packing. just a thought.

when there is a shooting in a big building or college, the cops gather OUTSIDE and make plans, and screw around for a couple hours, to make sure its (SAFE) to enter the building. the shooter is inside walking around killing people. now you answer the question. if you were trapped inside would you like a chance of living, if you had your pistol. if you are waiting on the cops to come running in to save you good luck with that. well hell yes let the students that have a license pack.

The police most likely check on their 401k plan before doing anything like confronting a violent person.

College students are no different from anyone else. The fact that they are in college to study and learn, makes it all the more reasonable to give those who take the time to take the gun course and pass the written and range tests, carry for their own protection and possibly the protection of others.

Not allowing students to carry guns on campus is not going to prevent the person with the intent to injure or kill from entering campus to do just that.

I agree with red dawn, by the time the police arrive most of the victims are likely already dead. The assailant usually does not kill himself until he is finished with his grim work or the police arrive. If some of the students are armed, at least some of them might have a chance.

Yes, I believe guns should be allowed. The population is growing too fast, and we need to weed out some ... too slow to outrun a bullet form a whacko's gun? Bye-bye!

guns are so mid evil and outdated and cowardly .. what's next, teach every little kid to carry a stick and a bag of rocks?
