The notion that smoking somehow helps keep smokers thin has gotten new support from a study in mice -- and the finding might one day be parlayed into new drugs to control weight gain.

This is curious. It has been known for a while (from industry documents exposed by court order) that the tobacco companies began putting appetite suppressants into cigarettes when they decided to target women. Hence the boldness of things like "Virginia Slims"--it wasn't just the shape of the cigarette they were hyping.
