To those Potsdam Town residents who do not get to vote on the dissolution issue, but whose taxes will rise: tough! For years you have benefited from the Potsdam Village while the village residents have paid the bill.

Tough to the single mother who could afford a home for her children in the Town of Potsdam but not the village and is barely making ends meet now? A mother who has paid a lot of money to use Pine St. arena while she could still afford for her children to play hockey? A mother who donates books to the library and shops locally in the village? I have to pay to have my garbage hauled away, I am paying taxes for the trucks to plow my road in the wintertime. Living in the town was not a choice but a necessity and before the "welfare" comment comes up, which it inevitably will, let me say that although I am eligible for many services, I had these children and I will raise these children on my own. I will not except what I believe are handouts. I work hard, it was not my choice to be a single parent. We don't take yearly vacations or have "toys" to play with but we have a home. So tell me, how have I benefited? I pay my taxes unlike the many village homes filled with those living off the system and having the state or county pay theirs.
