Two hours and 20 bags of garbage doesn't make up for 5 decades of destroying that neighborhood. Too little, too late.

The student ghetto was once a very nice neighborhood with hard working people. Now it
looks like it got hit by a tornado thanks to
privileged kiddles. P.S. Rosina how was Father
LaFalce doing?

I saw him yesterday at the St Anthony's Street feast in Utica and he had lost a little weight, limped significantly using while using a cane, had much shorter hair and smiled constantly. He appeared most happy to be out among the people, but did not stay too long as it was raining. BTW-this Street Feast was old-time Italian family fun.

A few rich kids from Long Island attending the Albany Normal picking up cigarette butts in Pine Hills and getting some positive media coverage is a bad joke. You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but NOT all of the people all of the time. Shame on the Times Union for falling for this PR crap cooked up by some over-paid state employee with a big fancy job.

So some kids get together and try to do a good thing and the best most of you can do is snipe at them. What about the slumlords that rent these dilapidated fire traps to the kids and others? Maybe if the rental houses were properly maintained the neighborhood wouldn't be so shabby. A lot of those houses aren't fit to be kennels. The students are easy scapegoats because they're transient but there is a lot more blame to go around.

Jimmy,

No one makes these kids live off campus. They do so because they don't want to abide by the rules of dormitory life and want to be free to indule in illegal drugs and drink alcohol to excess.

If those buildings have become run down, it's because these monsters, mostly from Long Island, have destroyed them.

Rich kids from Long Island don't go to concrete dung heaps like UA, they go to Colgate, Cornell, Columbia and NYU.
All college communities have rundown housing where landlords take advantage of a captive base. If the landlords had more respect for their own property, so would the students.
And if the students weren't there, what kind of economic hit would that community take? Who would they rent to? Instead of a student ghetto, PIne Hills would simply become a semi-abandoned ghetto.
"No one makes these kids live off campus"- Last I heard there wasn't enough on-campus housing for all the students.
"Spoken like a true schmuck from Long Island. Go away you hook-nosed pipsqueak." - Gee, biased much? When's your next Bund meeting? It's not my fault you live in a backwater river town that's rich in history, bad government and not much else.

"Rich kids from Long Island don't go to concrete dung heaps like UA, they go to Colgate, Cornell, Columbia and NYU." Sorry Jimmy some might but a lot come up here. Just look at the St. Paddy's day riot. Most of the students busted were rich long island trash. And don't blame the landlords for the red plastic solo cups, broken beer bottles, vandalized signs, and other crap that litters the streets of the Pine Hills. That is solo on the college kids. If a SUNY Albany vanished from the face of the earth tomorrow I would be the one holding the party.
