They are just adding to the data. The first indications were back about five years ago.

UN warning about global food prices are just one indication.

But it is more than about disruption in agriculture from climate instability and heat. It is also losses of pollinators (from bees to bats) and a growing population, increasing in meat consumption as developing nations become richer.

Actually what this is nothing more than another model that failed to match reality. A good giveaway of that was that phrase that the US had been given a pass on this round of global warming.

Of course if they were to go back further than 1980 they would discover that there has been crop cycles and the the data goes back centuries. One of the first things man started recording once they discovered the concept of record keeping was keeping track of crop yields.

The only real question is how soon someone dust off Thomas Mathus and trot him out again.

ALso notice the last line where they could not explain why food prices have increase as much as they have. It ignores a green idea called ethanol.
