How was Angelina Jolie's breast cancer risk calculated?

Yesterday Angelina Jolie shared her experience as a carrier of a BRCA1 genetic mutation that confers a very high lifetime risk of developing invasive breast cancer .
One of the studies came when the gene was discovered in 1990s. And the larger the study the lower the risk.
In other words people who go to doctors and became a statistic in the American medical industry are their because they are sick-uh huh.
So if this gene was discovered in the 1990s and the first set of studies done then right off the bat the bulk of the data is coming from women born in or with parent from the Cold War and reckless nuclear bomb testing and poor or less advanced radiation safety.
