Requirements for their citizenship included demonstrating their ability to read, write and speak basic English as well as the comprehending basic knowledge of U.S. history and government.
Basic? That's our standard now? That doesn't seem so hard, why not. I mean, if you want to be a CITIZEN of this country, it's seems pretty basic to do:

Read English. Write English. Speak English. Who were the 1st,3rd,16th, 35th Presidents. The Declaration of .....? Sing the Pledge of Allegiance. Fill out some forms, mail them in, have a current home address and PO#, telephone number and so on.
To be honest America, how long did it take us to learn all of that stuff. As for speaking English, wow, some of us haven't even learned that properly. And Topix tales for Writing Enlglish.

My point here is this. Congradulations to the teacher from New Madrid. 15 years. I guess you decided to buy the car after all? America carries a life time warrenty (for a limited time only...)
On the other side, for 15 years you were an illegal? A teacher at New Madrid? Must have worked at least some job in the US in that time. You seem to have done very well for yourself seeing as you have a degree to teach. All smart people know breaking the law is fun.*The Dodger does not encourge..he recommends*

I'm only saying, it seems pretty basic thing to become a citizen...why aren't more "illegals" able to become citizens?

In Portuguese:

That' s nosso padrão agora?
