Column: Marriage of gays is no threat

There are 9 comments on the cagaymarriage.blogspot.com story from Apr 26, 2009, titled Column: Marriage of gays is no threat. In it, cagaymarriage.blogspot.com reports that:

Donn Esmonde writes in his Buffalo, NY column:

"I sat on the couch in their comfortable living room. I watched them laugh at each other's jokes. I heard them finish each other's sentences. I saw the easy familiarity that comes with years of being together. They seemed like a lot of other middle-aged couples, only happier.

"I think that most folks sitting in my place would have looked at the lovebirds and thought, no big deal. Few couples are less threatening than a 68-year-old retired librarian and a 54-year-old ex-telephone company worker who uses a cane. Their mutual affection hardly seems like an assault on the Republic, much less an affront to an institution. Sitting with them on a recent afternoon, the very notion seems silly." MORE

Hatred is a result of ignorance, lack of education and lack of unbiased information.

Not necessarily. Many intelligent and informed people have been, and are, prejudiced and filled with hatred against different people and groups of people.

When I was in high school (Commack South, Class of 74), I had a couple of classes with this guy who transferred in when he was a junior. He was a STRAIGHT-A student and he would have most certainly been class valedictorian, if he ha d transferred in earlier. Anyway, I knew him because we had some classes together. VERY smart guys and a STRAIGHT-A student.

He was also a PROUD and DEDICATED member of the KKK & HATED black people.

Why ? I guess that's what pleased him.

Has it ever occurred to you that this guy was not chosen to be class valedictorian because he was a proud and dedicated member of the KKK?

He was not chosen because he was not eligible. He was in my high school less than 2 years before graduating.

And that wasn't the issue being discussed here.

I merely wanted to point out that he was very intelligent yet still stupid enough to let his hatred blind him to reality.

Yu have a problem with that ?

fear also plays a big part. people tend to be afraid of what they don't know and don't understand. if they choose not to learn, their fear becomes hatred.

Marriage equality is a tremendous threat to the talibangelical and constapo homophobes who base the better part of their rabid, defaming, fear mongering fundierai$ing on demonizing sexual pleasure and sexual variation.

Maybe no, but I do. He may have been educated, but that is far different than intelligent. People that believe in stupid things like race war and prejudice are definitely not wise in many ways.

So I would conclude that he was not very intelligent if he allowed himself to be swayed into that KK BS. I went to school with kids like that too. They were clever perhaps, but dumb*sses just the same. Big difference between crafty and intelligent.
