Trip, e-mail raise questions about SPC hiring

There are 2 comments on the www.tampabay.com story from Sep 24, 2008, titled Trip, e-mail raise questions about SPC hiring. In it, www.tampabay.com reports that:

ST. PETERSBURG — A month before he hired the director of international studies, St. Petersburg College president Carl Kuttler sent her to a Washington conference, paid her $500 a day and arranged a tour of the White House. He also used his personal credit card to pay part of her expenses, according to records obtained by the St. Petersburg Times. The Washington trip, and an internal memorandum about the controversial hiring of Violetta Sweet, raise further questions about Kuttler's involvement in the process.

Although SPC's HR department is supposedly being audited at this time, unfair promotions, favoritism, and racism are openly pracitced without impunity. SPC is a long standing bastion of favoritism and racism with the good ol' boy infrastructure as the institutional base. Departments such as the library, communications, financial aid and many others are operated in the same manner as CMK 'runs' the entire college. The sad part is that the 'not so primary' focus of the education system, the students, do not have a voice and it seems those in power,i.e., the governor, the FL DOE, and the EEOC are totally ignoring all of the issues of illegal spending of taxpayer monies, violation of Title VII, and giving the students a raw deal as well as giving them a perfect example of how a democratic system is not suppose to work. The St. Pete Times, the newspaper of the community acts as if CMK and the SPC problems do not exist because they conveniently close the comments block on articles. However, the have no problems whatsoever in writing about the past of newly elected FL state Rep. Darryl Rouson. The whole situation is one turmoil, full of unfairness, yet no one does anything. WHY??

All SPC employees received this memo:
Travel and hiring will be scrutinized very closely to help us deal with these most difficult economic times.
Effective today (Oct. 1), you will be asked to submit a pre-authorization travel request... before the purchase of tickets or payment of registration fees. A subcommittee of the Presidentís Cabinet will review the requests and determine if travel arrangements should proceed; you will be notified accordingly.
Has Violetta Sweet EVER had to submit a pre-authorization for travel? Did a subcommittee of the president's cabinet review her request for accommodations at the HYATT?
