It's a no-brainer for the brainers.

Smoking destroys futures. College builds futures. Even without the effect of SHS, there is no justification for permitting smoking on college campuses.

As to the effect on smokers, that one person quoted may not think anyone is quitting, and it may take some time, but the inconvenience involved WILL lead to a reduction in the number of cigarettes smoked a day, and that WILL lead to a reduction in the intensity of nicotine addiction for some, and that WILL facilitate quitting.

It's a shame that those using the bike path are being forced to put up with it, though. That sounds like an area set aside for people who want to be healthy, and it should also be off limits to smoking.

Have the UP start hiding in the bushes and ticket the litterbug smokers. That should generate enough income ro reduce the tuition and fees for all.

Just sayin

Dang.

Now why can't they be like Big Tobacco and put out a healthy product for once?

Here's a link that is relevant to the article.

This page no longer bothers telling you about campuses with designated smoking areas or "outside and away from the doors" approaches, but jumps right in with the 100% smoke-free schools.

Every couple of days a new school announces it will go smoke free. As I said ealier on another thread, very few students smoke on my campus and it is rare to see more than one standing well away from the doors having a smoke. I hope my campus will go 100% smoke free as I think it sends a message to youth that smoking will not be tolerated.

As noted in another thread, a college I attended sent a much less appropriate message.

Its always obvious when someone can't wrap their head around a serious issue. I'll wait till it harms someone close to you, then it will become ever so clear.

Finally a ban that linda, azmac, pete, and the rest have no concern or comment about whatsoever.
A ban on a college campus affects them just as much as a ban at a bookstore, the gym, mensa meetings, the toothpaste isle, a restaurant with tablecloths, a new car dealership, the workplace..........
Completely off their radar.

Being a serious issue and being comparable to the #1 preventable cause of death every year for decades are two very different things.

Being a serious issue and being relevant on a "smoking" forum are also pretty disparate concepts.

Actually, you would not even know what ONE college says about ANYBODY. You have to have SOME brains to go to school. You do not have to be a genius, but you do gave to have more than 2 neurons in your brain that will fire together, so that leaves you out. I'd be willing to bet you are so stupid they would not even give you free tickets to the Women's volleyball games.
