"Kurt Westergaard told roughly a dozen listeners Wednesday night that he will 'always' be ready to defend an individual's right to religious freedom.

'As the Danish tradition is for satire, we say you can speak freely, you can vote, you can speak out anytime, but there's only one thing you can't do — you can't be free of being mocked or being offended,' Westergaard said.'That's the conditions in Denmark and so many countries.'

Westergaard spoke at a private residence in midtown Manhattan in conjunction with the Hudson New York Briefing Council. It was just his second appearance in the U.S. since the 2005 publication of his notorious cartoon, which depicted Muhammad wearing a turban resembling a lit bomb. In Islam, any depiction of Muhammad is forbidden and considered blasphemy."

LOL, I use my freedoms for a lot of things.
I even use my freedom to hold hands with my wife in public.

My belief in god? Well it is truly questionable.
But the point is, you got my point.

Well, it's not like you don't give us more than enough material to work with! Too many Muslims insult and make fools of themselves, so what's the problem if we laugh at them?

What you're really saying is...muslims are not tolerant

You sub-human idiot it is completely beyond your intellect to absorb doctrines of higher nature. garbage like you will not understand Islam, but even if you bite your fingertips in rage victory will be for Islam, dont let the current cycle of history confuse you, there is a lot more comming your way. Islam has gushed forth as an epic. Now a heroic history is written with the sword, and in this religious context the sword assumes a sacred function, the taking of life does not have the same meaning as in profane history of your nations; combat is an ordeal, as it was in the climate of the Bible. The genesis of a religion amounts to the creation of a moral and spiritual type that is apparently new and even de-facto new in certain contingent respects. In the case of Islam this type consists of an equilibrium-paradoxical from the Christian point of view-between the qualities of the contemplative and the combative, and then between holy poverty and sanctified sexuality. The Arab-and the man Arabized by Islam- has, so to speak, four poles: The desert, the Sword, woman and religion. For the contemplative these become inward, the desert, the sword and woman becoming so many states or functions of the soul. Allah is not only All-powerful one and only Lord of all creation; the more profoundly his power is understood, the more he reveals himself as immanent Love.
On the most general and outward level, the sword represents death-death dealt out and death courted-so its perfume is always present. Woman represents an analogous reciprocity; she is love received and love given, and thus she incarnates all the generous virtues, she compensates for the perfume of death with that of life. The profoundest meaning of sword is that there is no nobility without renunciation of life, and this is why the Sufi’s initiatic vow-in so far as it relates historically to the pact of "Divine good Pleasure" (Bayat-ar-Ridwan)-includes the promise to fight to the point of death, bodily in the case of warriors and martyrs (Shahid) and spiritually in the case of Dervishes’ or the poor (Faqir). The Symbiosis of love and death within the framework of poverty and before the face of Absolute constitutes all that is essential in Arab nobility, so much so that I will not hesitate to say that here lies the very substance of the primitive Muslim soul. So how is the world going to win against a people who have made a happy and willing pact with their creator to fight for justice to the point of death where as the rest of the garbage people like you get a look of frightened rabbits on their faces at the mention of death, although each and every one of you will be dead soon, but you prefer to go to your graves like dogs with tubes stuck in every hole on a hospital bed. How can you people be expected to know of a warriors mind? We are a party of GOD,(Hezbollah) we are undefeatable.

you don't understand as usual. Muslims are people.people are not holy .We all can laugh when there is something really funny, but only idiots laugh at things they don't understand. It's not our duty to please you ,or to follow your style of life , so you can accept us. it just shows that you can't tolerate differnt cultures and bleifs. We believe that there are many wrong things in your culture , society and beliefs , do we try to mock you and make fun of you ? No, it's your life and you are free; just keep it to yourselves. This is TOLERANCE , not what you do.

your response is not true.
we clearly see in all parts of the world were Islam has gone that there is a clear intolerance by muslims of other religions and cultures.
It is not WE that are here to please YOU actually...if we were to move to a muslim country, I would expect you to want me to act and dress in the local manner to be respectful of your culture...
But when muslims move to another country, they begin to impose their own laws and religion onto the people of the country.
I see muslims that do not respect my belief..calling me an unbeliever and an infidel because I worship God in a different way.
Calling me blasphemous because I do not accept Islamic beliefs.
Muslims are also very guilty of ignorance and intolerance.

I'd like to send you a copy of my book..."The humor of Islam...you'll die laughing. The title is a twist on your sharia law that forbids laughing too much...which makes me laugh too much.

You probably know, there has never been a book on the humor of islam. Don't know why, most of us here know the texts are hillarious!

I'm hoping others will also write books on the humor of islam. you guys need to lighten up!

it's not just Muslims .Also Christians think if you don't accept Jesus as your saviour ,you're not saved, so why only blaming Muslims? Also, we don't make cartoon or drawings mocking your belief. We follow the quranic rule ( Your belief is for you and ours is for us) It means we should respect eachother's belief. that respect and tolerance we demand because it's our right.

Really ? Were there any drawings mocking Moses . peace be upon him,.I mean people or even countries , are not holy, people do this in their press all the time , so why to blame us? but prophets of God must be respected . There is no Muslim who dares to mock Jesus or Moses , peace be upon them, so they have no right to mock our prophet.

Does religious freedom include the right to denegrate others?

How can he say this? Is it sarcasm - because if it is not, then he is contradicted himself totally.

All he has done is promoted and reinforced a lie by taking a negative and wholly inaccurate stereotype then immortalised it with Wilber-dodo's avatar.

I see, "be free of".

OK, so why not black people or jews or homosexuals? There are plenty of inaccurate rascist bigot stereotypes about these communities. Why not do some cartoons about them if it a great Danish tradition.

I know plenty of scandanavians including quite a few Danes. They think this guy is an idiot. I agree.

Freedom is the right to poke fun at everyone and everything.

If you do not agree, no problem.
THat is your right as a free person.

But you do not have the right to stop another from doing things that do not harm or interfere with others.

You are free to ignore. That is as far as we can go when someone talks or writes with a different opinion.
