Why aren't you, therefore, trying to make marriage illegal for heterosexuals who have previously had sex outside of the confines marriage? (Because you're apparently quite cretinous.)

Gay couples have been marrying in churches with the full blessings of the Christian faith for centuries now. Many early Christian churches even elevated same-sex relationships has being of more importance to the community based on the Biblical story of David and his love for Jonathan. Nowhere in the Bible is a heterosexual couple given the reverence that those two have. OOPS!!! You didn't know any of that, either, did you?? Might be time to get some learnin' into you before you keep talkin', huh??

eJohn wrote: from the article, "We cannot pretend as if we do not know that the Bible clearly teaches that all homosexual acts are sinful, as is all human sexual behavior outside the covenant of marriage." WHERE in the Bible does it way ANY of this??? And WHERE does it define marriage as being solely between one man and one woman?? Where does it condemn all human sexual behavior outside of marriage?? These are all things that the fundies create out of Biblical scripture. They're reading into scripture what they want to read. I just love how these evangelicals like to pretend that they're not "interpreting" what the Bible says, all the while declaring their faith in things the Bible doesn't ever mention. How is that not "interpreting" the Bible when they believe in things that the Bible doesn't say?? The fundies have written their own fake bibles . There are over 40 different ones; customized to the support the individual beliefs of each particular denomination. Each one claims to the the 'indisputible inspired word' of their particular god . The arguments and conflicts are generated when the various people start comparing bibles that are not all the same . Bibles that have been changed are copyrighted by their authors . By contrast; The Authorized Bible is public domain; not copyrighted . GOD's Holy Word cannot be copyrighted

JMichael in Fort Worth wrote: I think it's important to note that the author of the article, R. Albert Mohler Jr., is the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Southern Baptists are extreme fundamentalists, to the point that in order to have a position of authority within the Church, applicants must sign a statement declaring that the Bible is inerrant, that the husband is the head of the household, etc. In Texas, several churches / congregations in the convention have been voted out because of their "soft" (i.e., moderate) stances on such issues as homosexuality, women's rights, etc. Thus Mr. Mohler's position is entirely unsurprising to me. But you know what? It is his right to believe what he will, and to express his beliefs for publication. However, he has no right to force his beliefs on me as an individual, and especially as an American citizen. And that unacknowledged and disrespected boundary is why I keep pushing back every time he and his kind shove forward. "Southern Baptists are extreme fundamentalists" Yes . Most here live in normal states and actually have no idea how radical and crazed these people are. To read about them is one thing but to meet them is another story. I have been to bible Panhandle further north in the state where it was like "Children of the corn" but with adults. Every other girl is now named Sarah and every other boy is named Todd (Palins). However these people are voting machines which can not be said of the gay community in Florida. " women's rights" Funny isn't it how they support the Afghanistan war by saying it is about "women's rights" yet here they attempt to strip women of more and more rights with choice coming to mind. EVERY "less gvm't" tea party candidate including Florida's Rick Scott is anti womens choice and rabidly anti gay.

ScottyMatic said it best here: http://www.topix.com/forum/news/gay/T2KR4PMUF... concerning the religious problem of myth and superstition. My disagreement is with Mohler's claim that "Our greatest fear is not that homosexuality will be normalized and accepted, but that homosexuals will not come to know of their own need for Christ and the forgiveness of their sins." While the Southern Baptists may indeed want more butts in the pews, they really are much more afraid of the "normalization of homosexuality." It's not about marriage, civil unions, adoption, hate crimes, DADT, etc., etc.... Those are merely secondary concerns. Mohler and his ilk are scared to death that more and more people are coming to really know their LGBT family members, coworkers, colleagues, and neighbors. Especially the younger set are understanding that the tired old lines no longer carry the truth that the elders claim. And it scares the sh1t out of them. They are frightened about the idea that homosexuality will be seen as normal and common as heterosexuality. It scares the sh1t out of them because they know they're losing.

The article isn't facing reality. Churches that waffle on homosexual issues are in steep decline. Nearly all churches that strongly support the Bible's commands against all homosexual behavior are growing. There is no legitimate question about the Bible's commands. They are there. They will never change.

If you had, you might have caught on to the reality that it was a message from an Evangelical (he is the head of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, so you can't question his credentials) to his fellow Evangelicals. Your simple minded my way or the highway to hell view of the world is what is causing you to lose in this debate, you may want to read what he had to say...

This is true apart from whatever the stats are on overall church attendance. The cretin should also know perfectly well that the buybull condemns - and actually does condemn, as opposed to sketchy translations by homophobes and misogynists - many things other than homosexuality, most of which these uber "Christian" bigots politely overlook.
