My WWII Iwo Jima Vet was cruelly denied any benefits for approximately 50 years.

He lost his hearing there at age 19 as he was mooving ammunition from beach to weapons.

They denied him health benefits, finacial benefits, counselin, check ups...everything.

They, the VA in Philadelphia once wrote him that he could not have lost his hearing there because he was in Motor Transport. What do they think the young men were doing...changing oil in a gas station? Every American there was courageously fighting, running, shooting, helping, doing whatever had to be done to win.

My husband should have been given full benefits and should have received a Purple Heart for his lifelong injury but the VA fought him instead.

He is now 86 years old and a great American but totally disallusioned by this bankrupt system where you are forgotten and abandoned when you need them.

He joined the Marines to fight and win. He did his job but the VA, again, did not do theirs. It is an adversarial system that did everything they could to lie and ignore veterans.

How utterly absurd.

In some terrorist countries, they take care of the families after suicide missions.

In the US, veterans must fight again- this time their own gov't!

Why do only 34% of veterans opt in for VA benefits and 66% do not? Could it be caused by the VA being an advesary of the veteran rather an advocate? Is it the lies , cover ups, fraud, white collar crime, corruption, botched health care, blinding 8 vetrans at the Palo Facility, unnecessary amputations, the death of Gary Price at the Sacramento Facility, although VA had already determined he had a service-connected cancer, yet would not operate until the cancer was too large an became inoperable and he died.
The cry veterans sing to the VA today is DENY, DENY, UNTIL THEY DIE!

Secretary Shinseki, you have to get rid of your adverserial and criminal underlings and fix the systemic problems of the VA or your 34% will shrink to zero. Veterans do not need to put their health in jeapordy by going to the VA.
