As long as the professor does not proselytize, that is ok. One tries to teach people how to think on their own, not what to think. It should be irrelevant what the professor's personal beliefs are as long as s/he does not force them on someone else. The multicultural movement went too far in trying to push its agenda. Political correctedness was simply a mistake. Now, we are reaping the "rewards" of this excess?

And this is why NYU enjoys an excellent reputation, whereas schools that do not have strong academic freedom policies enjoy no such thing.

Academic freedom? Ms. Thio preaches (that's the right word) things that are scientifically false. Why not hire a professor that teaches that the earth is flat? There are plenty of believers in that too.

I don't by any means agree with the woman.

But yes, her having the academic freedom to pursue her line of study does enrich the university.

NYU is VERY LGBT friendly, by the way. It's not going to do a bit of harm for the students to hear opposing views. Might even help them develop good rebuttals.
