Social Security fund slides into permanent deficit

By Stephen Ohlemacher,

WASHINGTON — Social Security's finances are getting worse as the economy struggles to recover and millions of baby boomers stand at the brink of retirement.

Congressional projections show Social Security running deficits every year until its trust funds are eventually drained in about 2037.

This year alone, Social Security is projected to collect $45 billion less in payroll taxes than it pays out in retirement, disability and survivor benefits, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

Yeah, the 2nd coming of George W. Bush-Perry is trying to decide between the Heath Care policy of “If you’re poor: too bad” and “ I could care less about the sick”… the good old compassionate conservative philosophy.

Impeach Obama!
"Social Security has built up a $2.5 trillion surplus since the retirement program was last overhauled in the 1980s." Wait a minute!! 2.5 trillion dollar surplus. How can that be. For years the Republicans have been telling us that Social Security is broke and is the cause of our debt. They say we can't afford it and need to get rid of it. How can Social Security be sucking up all of our money when it has a 2.5 trillion dollar surplus? You don't think the Republicans have been lying again do you?

There is a surplus...but it is in the form of IOU'S. As you know. Effective immedietly..all social security monies will be separated from the general fund. Do you agree? Otherwise shut up! Progressives would have ended this if they were not liars. They even took 500 billion from the program. Because of how we live beyond our means, people die in other places. That is the true sadness.

Rick Perry has no idea what he plans to do about anything ..... much less health care.
Complete lack of logic.

He'll be informed by the end of the year that he's wasting time with attempts at the Presidency. Too overwhelming for him to understand.

Social Security was never an issue with regard to the debt or deficit.

The Reich would have everyone believe that any New Deal program or and liberal intitated program adds to our economic woes, deflecting the blame from the casino capitalists on Wall Street who are really responsible.

Perry should be training as a contortionist rather than running for president, since his state is dead last in health care quality and delivery.

The wealthy, greedy, elitists will sell their grandmothers down the river in exchange for an ego stroking power trip like running for the Rethuglican nomination.

Larded up with bad ideas, job killing initiatives, and wealth redistribution off the backs of the middle class, funneled up to the already wealthy.

Anyone hear that Romney is demolishing his multi million dollar tiny 3000 square foot LaJolla California beach "cottage" to build an 11,000 sq foot mansion?

He really did well for himself, tossing thousands into the streets as a professional hatchet man his entire career.

And founding that overpriced "Staples" chain of fascist right wing run office supply stores.

So then the problem is not with Social Security itself but because its funds have been plundered. The Republican position is the bank should be forever closed because Jessie James robbed it. And you think that makes sense? It is like all the corporations that raided the pension funds and are now crying because there is no money left and they have to pay the pensions out of current revenues.

The American people should have the same healthcare as politicians-Federal Healthcare.

It must be so good, that they exempted themselves from ObamaCare.

Now, why would politicians, The President not want ObamaCare?

One third of the people of Texas have no health insurance and therefore, no health care.

Serves 'em right, huh Perry?

That'll learn 'em to be poor.

Why is this misleading article posted twice? Are liberals getting that desperate?

"Texas would be among the biggest beneficiaries of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, standing to gain coverage for nearly 4 million uninsured residents".

Wrong. 4 million people in Texas do not stand to gain coverage from healthscam. 4 million people will be forced to purchase a product.

The bill requires purchase of health insurance. Many companies across the USA have said they'll just pay the fine. It's hilarious how the far left maniuplates the KC Star's liberal views to suit it's propaganda. However, once the SC declares the forcing of Americans to buy something is unconstituional as other courts have already said, then that won't be a problem. But meanwhile, let's single out Perry and Texas since he's a republican running for President. You must come up with all the bullshit propaganda possible as you have since 2000.

It hardly seems fair to me for people who now choose not to buy health insurance to increase MY costs:

MYTH: The plight of the uninsured doesn’t impact those of us with insurance.

FACT: The cost of uncompensated care for the uninsured contributes significantly to the cost of employer-sponsored coverage.

•Uncompensated care for the uninsured added $922 to the costs of employer-sponsored family coverage and $341 to the costs of employer-sponsored single person coverage in 2005.

It is not a coincidence that the countries that are ranked above the United States in "Happiest Countries" are also ranked above the U.S. in "Quality of Health Care"

All of the top 9 Happiest Countries in the World have universal health care.

I deliberately chose the most CONSERVATIVE source I could find for this statistic. On some sites, the U.S. is as low as 37th in the world.

10 COUNTRIES WHERE PEOPLE ARE THE HAPPIEST

1. Norway (ranks above U.S. in education, ranks above U.S. in quality of health care)

2. Denmark (ranks above U.S. in education, ranks above U.S. in quality of health care)

3. Finland (ranks above U.S. in education, ranks above U.S. in quality of health care)
