Social Security fund slides into permanent deficit

WASHINGTON — Social Security's finances are getting worse as the economy struggles to recover and millions of baby boomers stand at the brink of retirement.


Congressional projections show Social Security running deficits every year until its trust funds are eventually drained in about 2037.

This year alone, Social Security is projected to collect $45 billion less in payroll taxes than it pays out in retirement, disability and survivor benefits, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

"Social Security has built up a $2.5 trillion surplus since the retirement program was last overhauled in the 1980s." Wait a minute!! 2.5 trillion dollar surplus. How can that be. For years the Republicans have been telling us that Social Security is broke and is the cause of our debt. They say we can't afford it and need to get rid of it. How can Social Security be sucking up all of our money when it has a 2.5 trillion dollar surplus? You don't think the Republicans have been lying again do you?

There is a surplus...but it is in the form of IOU'S. As you know. Effective immedietly..all social security monies will be separated from the general fund. Do you agree? Otherwise shut up! Progressives would have ended this if they were not liars. They even took 500 billion from the program. Because of how we live beyond our means, people die in other places. That is the true sadness.

Social Security was never an issue with regard to the debt or deficit.

The Reich would have everyone believe that any New Deal program or and liberal intitated program adds to our economic woes, deflecting the blame from the casino capitalists on Wall Street who are really responsible.

Perry should be training as a contortionist rather than running for president, since his state is dead last in health care quality and delivery.

So then the problem is not with Social Security itself but because its funds have been plundered. The Republican position is the bank should be forever closed because Jessie James robbed it. The bill requires purchase of health insurance. Many companies across the USA have said they'll just pay the fine.
