This is an unsupported, irrational claim. It marks the claimer as an idiot.

It is certainly an clueless and irrational statement by climatologist Dr. Richard Lindzen of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. But it is due more to his inability to 'follow the data'.

He has been one of the few scientists so determined to follow their own 'opinion' long after it has been shown to be unsupportable that he is officially a laughing stock.

This is a major flaw in scientific method. If you cannot let go of your hypothesis (that AGW is false) in the light of the data, you become a 'junk scientist' writing papers such as the 'Infrared Iris'. Eventually, in frustration, there is only 'ad-hominem' and 'demagoguery' to turn to. The fall of what might otherwise have been a decent scientist.

Like I said. "there is only 'ad-hominem' and 'demagoguery' to turn to.". You don't consider wattsupwiththat to be science based do you?

Nah.

C'mon, you're a smart bloke, I'm sure sarcasm isn't beyond you.

Wattsupwiththat is pseudo-science, a place where people like Lindzen go to get their theories cheered on when they can't get an audience in the scientific community any more, along with the out-and-out cranks of course.

Which of course is demagoguery, but that misses the sarcasm.

No. But it is very hard to determine from postings. I use <sarcasm> text </sarcasm> tags for sarcasm.

"Agnotology, then, is a two-edged sword since either side in a debate may claim that general ignorance arises from misinformation allegedly circulated by the other."

I object to the claim that SERIOUS research in respected journals can be classified as 'misinformation' or 'ignorance'. We KNOW who puts out the junk science (and this website is well named..) and who substitutes money and propaganda for factual study and it isn't the serous researchers.

The junk in this 'report' is based on false assumptions and definitions of science as being no more 'real' than political bullshit.

"In 2009 Marc Morano became the executive director and chief correspondent of ClimateDepot.com , a project of the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), a conservative think-tank based out of Washington D.C. that has received funding from ExxonMobil, Chevron, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars from foundations associated with Richard Mellon Scaife. According to 2011 IRS Forms (PDF), Morano was the highest paid staff member with a salary of $150,000 per year."

"Although he has no scientific expertise in the area, Morano has become a prominent climate change skeptic."

That is the way they work. Big money to uneducated idiots that will pledge to lie, mislead and do your bidding. He could have been a 'tobacco scientist' with some education but he missed that boat..
