CASPER, Wyo.-- Wyoming regulators have agreed to keep secret the identities of 146 chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing since disclosure rules went into effect nearly a year ago, according the the state's oil and gas supervisor.

The Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission granted the trade secret exemptions to 11 companies, said Tom Doll, commission supervisor.

Fracking is used to develop nearly all oil and gas wells in the state.

Wyoming's fracking fluid disclosure rules, the first of their kind in the nation, have attracted concern from environmental groups and some landowners in the state who are worried about the identity and concentration of chemicals used in the process and fear such chemicals could pollute drinking water.

Components of fracking liquids, long kept secret by the industry, ranged from harmless substances like salt to dangerous pollutants like methanol, lead and benzene.

The EPA began a comprehensive review of fracking last year after public outcry prompted the agency to reconsider a 2004 report that stated fracking did not pose a threat to the water supply.

The 2004 report prompted Congress under the Bush administration to exempt fracking from regulation under the Clean Water Act, and gave the green light for thousands of fracking wells to be established with little federal oversight.

WETZEL COUNTY, W.Va - When the horses stopped drinking, residents here became convinced of their worst suspicions. The water had gone bad.

Bonnie Hall's eight horses take a lot of water. Fifteen gallons a day, each. Hall was puzzled the November 2008 day the horses left their water bucket untouched.

Hall, who has lived on this isolated mountainside plot for 21 years, figured the horses would eventually drink, and left them alone. It wasn't until the next day, when she came to check on them, that she realized their water was dark.

Now, the horses' drinking water -- drawn from a 300-foot well -- smells like an industrial-strength cleaning solvent.

Hall has shipped in water for her horses ever since, though she's continued to drink water from a much shallower, 30-foot well that inexplicably has remained unaffected. This shallow well frequently goes dry, and cannot provide enough water for the horses, Hall said. Overwhelmed with the burden of shipping water, she's given up two horses and plans to give up two more this winter.

Lighting water on fire sounds like a magic trick, but for some Fort Lupton residents who can perform it in their own kitchen sink, it’s not very entertaining.

Amee Ellsworth and her husband have spent the past five months hoping that their water, which is contaminated with natural gas, does not cause their home to explode. After learning of the Ellsworths’ bizarre concern, at least one more person living near Fort Lupton has discovered her home may be in the same situation.

The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission performed the October tests on the Ellsworths’ water. Dave Neslin, acting director for the commission, said tests indicate the water is contaminated from a natural gas well, but the source has not been confirmed. Eight natural gas wells are located in the area surrounding the Ellsworths’ country home.

We can have this conversation but you cannot show me one place – not one — where there is a proven pollution of groundwater by hydraulic fracking,” Perry told 22-year-old Carrie Kauffman.

Bring me the paper,” Perry, a 2012 Republican candidate for president, told the crowd.“Show me the paper. I am truly offended that the American public would be hoodwinked by stories that do not scientifically holdup. If that was true, it would be on the front page of every newspaper. It would be on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News. Everybody would be running that story.

The energy companies are like the waiter who brought a man his soup. about halfway through the boal, the man found a WORM with his spoon in his soup. He called over the waiter:

"There's a big worm in myu soup."

"Don't worry, sir, no extra charge."

Pollution in drinking and bathing water is the worm in the soup.
It's not as much fun when I have to spell things out.

And you are swimming in the great river of Egypt.
