The Pembroke Avenue overpass will look like other any other new highway span in metro Detroit when it reopens this fall, but it will be part of an experiment to build bridges that last twice as long as they do now.

I hope they get the engineering right on this material. I had some I was using as an experiment and carried it around in my truck. I finally gave it to the kid to play with outside under the deck. The stuff was always breaking easily and weather degraded it badly in months. You just could not trust it to be reliable. Of course, our engineers will do a downtown job of making sure we are all safe and save money in the process.
