I am in full support of Marion's decision to put $7.5 million on the table in support of making the community a viable contender for King College's proposed medical school. This may be a great investment for the community's economic future.

I agree. I think the article in the paper made a good case as to why it should be here instead of Washington County or elsewhere.

I don't agree. They will only being hiring about 1% of local people. Most of all the taxes collected will go to the State. Prices will go up on our local area to citzens to hire the extra police, fire, etc. Apartment rent will go up. We already have at medical college at ETSU. Don't need another one. I do agree it should not be in Washington County as they are going broke. Washington County has aided in raising the poverty rate to 20%.

Simple the population will increase from the extra people that move here. Also, you are going to have a bunch of new students. When I went to college we had a lot of visits from the local police. Normally the amount of police you have is based on the population.

No I am NOT a Abingdon supporter. As I stated before I don't want that school here or in Abingdon. I hope the college goes elsewhere. Besides if you decide to send your child to a medical school do you really think people will send there kids here. Everybody here says the Abingdon Hospital is really just an Animal Hospital.

Of course people will send their kids here for an education. I went to school with kids from everywhere when I went to Marion College in the 60s and I went to school with kids from everywhere when I went to Emory and Henry College in the early 70s.

Who would have thought people would send their kids to Grundy to attend Law and Pharmacy school?

I want the school here for the support businesses it brings to town and the increased business of the existing businesses.

Wonder if the med school will teach ob/gyn? There is such a high demand here in Smyth county, I've heard there will be a lot of new positions with MSHA for ob/gyn workers in the future.

Haha, I kid. I'm not sure yet what my opinion is about this. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the parking garage controversy and court house updates. Everyone was against that but they want a med school and are willing to pay $7.5 million to get it?
I've never had my own business and I may be really wrong here but isn't the business supposed to pay the town/county (for the property, the permits, and everything else that comes with a business, and not the other way around? If the county is giving out millions of money to get businesses/school here then tell me where to sign up? I have plenty of ideas and i could use a little extra money.

The Law school in Grundy is a good example. I guess no one reads anymore. The Law School is going down fast. At the rate they are going they may have to close. The Medical College on the surface may look good for a few. Hell there has not even been an impact study done and will are giving away the money. Like I said if I had a choice between Abingdon and ETSU. ETSU is the place I would go. I gree with you on the Pharmacy School. The last time I was at VHCC about half of people that goes to this college has fallen down big time in the last 8 years. The people that go there now is due to fact they receive a Pell Grant.
