A simmering, months-long conflict between congregants at Kalamazoo's St. Luke's Episcopal Church and church officials reached a boiling point Sunday, with a police report filed against the pastor for allegedly shoving an elderly parishioner.The Rev. Jay R. Lawlor was accused of pushing Marcia Morrison, 76, whose family owns Morrison Jewelers, during a heated discussion about recent events at the church. "After the service, church members confronted Lawlor about the changes announced last week. Breisach said he saw Lawlor telling Morrison and another parishioner,'I'm not talking to you about this anymore' and then Lawlor pushed Morrison aside.
"'He appeared agitated and pushed Marcia back,' Breisach said.'I saw this priest in full vestments doing almost a football charge against a woman twice his age. It was shocking.'
"Fritz said that parishioners were still talking Sunday night about the incident, as well as the irony that a church community has become embroiled in such animosity ..."
