The F-35: A Weapon That Costs More Than Australia

There are 22 comments on the www.theatlantic.com story from Mar 17, 2011, titled The F-35: A Weapon That Costs More Than Australia. In it, www.theatlantic.com reports that:

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an impressive aircraft: a fifth generation multirole fighter plane with stealth technology. It's also a symbol of everything that's wrong with defense spending in America. In a rational world, U.S. military expenditure would focus on the likely threats that the United States faces today and in the future. And at a time of mounting national debt, the Tea Party would be knocking down the Pentagon's door to cut waste. But the only tea party in sight is the one overseen by the Mad Hatter, as we head down the rabbit hole into the military industrial wonderland.

No, it is better that the best the USSR could ever have produced.
It is an awesome airplane; crazy-scary in its capabilities. It is astounding to loo back and see how far we've come in less than a hundred and ten years.

Too bad it is also crazy-expensive.

Before even going into production, the F35 is outdated technology due to advances in un-manned flight.

You are no doubt correct about the Technoligy, BUT, like 'Boots on the ground', you also need 'People in the air'..

Yes the cost over-runs are criminal, BUT, when your living on credit, flat-busted-broke with no relief in sight, who cares...

Defense is one of the few legitimate purposes of Government. Not just ours, but every Government. What sanity is there in reducing Defense to indefensible levels? To spend more on Social Programs? Defense is the ultimate Social Program. It keeps our Country and people intact.

Waste is spending on redundant and unaccountable programs and Departments, with no practical benefit.$14 Trillion in the "War on Poverty", that destroyed families, increased welfare dependence, increased the poverty rate, and has negated all prior social and monetary gains made by large swathes of the population.

Your point on the military is a joke. However, johnson, a known traitor and a criminal president, knew that his war on 'poverty' was simply another Marxist move designed to hand over taxpayer funds to several of his corp friends.

The problem is that voters of the past 100 years are STUPID. Framers of the Constitution KNEW about the terrors of any central government and took actions took minimize it's power.

Marxists SUBVERTED the Constitution using several strategies, and begin their work during the Civil War. Many were students of the French Revolution, a revolution that karl marx studied and viewed as a communist revolution, fundamentally.

He was right.

Karl also pointed out that the USA system was an easy target

He we right again.

Printing money alone would add up to the deficit. It's not cheap to print money even wall street cost 100's of billions to run up the numbers electronically due to the hedge funds managers compensations.

Maybe the republican house may even out sources the the F-35 contract to the Chinese to save the government some money? They out sourced 3000 trucks to be made during ronnald reagan's term.

God did bless America, but they blew it.

Now..."Who can make war with the BEAST?"

Power flows from the end of a gun, and America has the biggest and baddest guns. But in the end, God will rain down hellfire on America for all her crimes against the world and humanity. Collectively, the American people need to repent and stop turning a blind eye and acting as though they're lily white.
