WOO HOO !!! CONGRATULATIONS DEREK!!!! With that said, I would like to address a few issues...

I believe the discharge of Officer Huizenga's weapon was indeed intentional, and that action should be taken to ensure no individual is in a situation where they are facing an officers firearm due to a relationship with dried, cannabis plant flowers.

To anyone who thinks Derek should have been murdered by this police officer... I think your opinion is in vast need of reflection, consideration, and re-structuring. To wish this young mans life would have been taken for being involved with cannabis flowers is unreasonable. I really hope some love can enter your hearts and you can journey down the path of reasonability rather than hate...

I totally support and love Derek, I love the officer too, all though I don't agree with his actions. I don't think Derek did anything wrong. I think Officer Huizenga should not be in positions that involve a firearm..and wish them both the best in their life journey's.

I am happy and congratulate Derek on his settlement, I am glad he can pay his medical expenses now.

I sincerely hope that the Drug War which has failed tremendously is re-looked at with the consideration of events such as these. I hope for, have faith in, and love the movement to Re-Legalize Cannabis in Michigan this year. If you would like to join the movement, engage in dialogue, learn more information, or join us as a volunteer to collect signatures to reach our goal of getting this petition on the ballot, please follow Protest for Peace on Facebook and Twitter, or check out our new facebook group specifically addressing our campaign "Michigan Re-Legalization Team 2012: GVSU/ Ottawa County/ Grand Rapids" I am a local organizer, Gregory Hatt, and not scared or ashamed to say what I've said. I whole-heartedly support the re-legalization of cannabis, and believe we can accomplish this great goal this year, thanks to all of you who have supported Protest for Peace, Derek Copp, and the movement towards a rational cannabis policy, and thank you to the Grand Rapids Press for their coverage, as well as everyone who created a good thought or feeling in their hearts for the cause. Let's Re-Legalize Cannabis this year, WE CAN DO IT!!! See you on the streets!!!
