Give those legislators the finger (a prostate exam) when they talk about priorities. Thats where their brains are.

Instead of blaming the state, these universities should look at their own double-digit rate hikes in recent years.

Oh no, they hike up the rates - despite the poor economy. Colleges will outsource housekeeping, maintenance - but the big wigs always keep their perks.

MSU announced that it will use federal stimulus funds to pay students who had expected to receive the MI Promise Scholarship this semester, but only students with the highest financial need will be frully covered next semester...ie: not all Promise grant recipients will receive money in the spring, but they will ALL receive it for the Fall.

How does using Stimulus Funds for this stimulate the economy?

<quoted text>
If students are educated to take on the jobs of the future that will mean more will be working and less on the unemployment rolls or in low paying jobs. To Many former college graduates have not been able to find jobs in the field they studied for, we need students who are ready for todays work force. Stimulus funds help these students get the education they need today for the job market of the future.

We need jobs to put these students in to keep the money they may potentially make here in the state. Unfortunately with the economy the way it is I know way too many recent graduates leaving for opportunities outside of the state.

I agree with KCGR, I question the use of these funds in this manner.

I'm confused, you literally worship Obama, and his tax and spend policies, but then you say stop the tax and spend programs?
Make up your mind!

But, you call Obama your "savior" ....
You could at least learn to spell her name correctly.
Or is that too much to ask.

Thanks Ms Angie, that was what I was referring to. The stimulus funds were suppose to be used to stimulate the economy NOW, just like they were not suppose to be put into place to help balance the state budget.

Exactly, those funds were supposed to go to stimulate economic growth and development. Using them to pay student costs, and to balance state budgets is in no way stimulating the economy. It's merely applying a federal tax dollar band aide to a giant gaping head wound.

And won't our Michigan Budget be even more fun to balance next year when there aren't any Stimulus dollars to plug the holes? It should be an exciting budget crises here next year.

Yeah, exactly. There's a quote by George Washington about borrowing money, let me see if I can find it.

It took me a bit, but here it is:

"There is no practice more dangerous than that of borrowing money; for when money can be had in this way, repayment is seldom thought of in time, the interest becomes a loss, exertions to raise it be dent of industry cease, it comes easy and is spent freely, and many things [are] indulged in that would never be thought of if [they were] to be purchased by the sweat of the brow."

I truly do feel bad for these kids, because they did do the work and earn it, but hey we all know how that goes. It is an everyday fact of life. Sometimes disappointments in life can make you a much stronger person and to rely on yourself for your accomplishments.

Daily Horoscope for December 1

Cancer

The nurturing Moon in your eleventh house of friends and associates, possibly brings a mentor into your life. There is always much wisdom that can be gained by observing the lives of others; you can avoid certain mistakes by watching them made by others. In this case, you may be faced with financial or sexual issues as Neptune and Chiron shake things up in your eighth house of sex, money, and power... if the stakes are high, you need to think twice. The Moon enters Gemini as the day goes on, causing you to look within.
