Nick Johns is a gifted musician. As a cradle Catholic who was the son of a deacon and an altar boy himself, Johns grew up with a love for the organ that was so strong, he pursued a degree in it at Georgia State University.

Johns chose to tell the truth and the Red Man with a Pointy Tail took control of the remainder of the 'church'
.
Perhaps the time has come for the 'church' to trade in its candles for blowtorches

LOL. Now Johns has progressed from organist to prophet, huh?

If you work for someone and have a fundamental disagreement with their mission, methods, etc. you're free to tell all the "truth" you want-just not on their nickel.

Ask any straight people who've been canned for telling the "truth" about their employer.

Welcome to equal treatment under the law, KS.

Mr. Johns does seem to be a very talented musician.
He did, however, make his own choice to publicly dissent from the teachings of his employer.
You seem to state here that the employer's action here was "narrow minded". That's an odd statement.
Had they not paid Mr. Johns for his services as contracted, would you label any actions Mr. Johns would take in his contractual interests as "narrow minded"?
Straw -man argument. They are still narrow minded.

I'll still never understand why any self-respecting LGBT person would want to even be associated with the Roman Catholic Church. It's like a black American wanting to join the KKK. It doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure if it matters if you or I find it acceptable or not.
They guy gave cause and they termed him. I mean, that's what happens.
It looks to me like after he complied with his employer's request a new manager took over and decided to can him despite his compliance with their prior requests.

If he made his FB page private where was the "cause".

I'm sorry - as an HR person myself I think you're on thin ice here.

We have a simple rule, if you advertise that you work for our company then we have a right to say what goes on your FB page. But if you don't then your FB page is YOURS.

My FB page for example is private and under employer it says "Private".

My employer has no right to say diddly about anything I post on FB and none of my co-workers are friends on my FB page.

The church, in this case anyway, seems as though it wants to impose its view on its employees and under the law it does NOT have the right to do that no matter how much they want to think they do.

However, I must admit I don't understand why any gay person would ever associate itself with the Catholic Church in any role (employee or parishioner). They are anathema and their idea of compassion and justice leaves a great deal to be desired.

Your company can handle things as they see fit. Not every employer handles things that way.

Yeah, Johns got a new boss, and the new boss handled Johns differently. That probably even happens at your company.

I think your last paragraph tells your story on this. You just don't like how the Church regards homosexuality.

Don't work for them or don't join.

Problem solved.

Working for the Catholic Church really sucks. You can be fired at will for almost anything.

That's true of most jobs. Most states are "at will" states, which means you can be fired at any time for any reason.

And I'll never understand why any self-respecting LGBT person would want to be associated with the Roman Catholic Church anyway.

(besides, it's a well-known FACT that you have to be an ELCA Lutheran, like Jesus was, to get into heaven.:))
