There are 18 comments on the The Capital-Journal story from Feb 23, 2012, titled Jury to rule: Was hate motive of NJ webcam spying?. In it, The Capital-Journal reports that:

It's not just what a former Rutgers University student did or didn't do that's at issue in his trial on charges he used a webcam to spy on his roommate's liaison with another man, just days before the roommate killed himself.

I could have seen the pos doing the same thing if his roommate had been hooking up with a woman, but he wouldn't have broadcast it to other dorm mates had it been heterosexual.

Of course it would have nixxed his chances with any other woman after it got around.

Perhaps he thought that two men making out was embarrassing, and he took pleasure in embarrassing his room mate. I'm not convinced that rises to "hatred."

I could also imagine that someone would try to embarrass their room mate by broadcasting his encounter with a fat chick. Would that mean that he hated fat people? Or does it just mean he's an asshole?

Exactly. Whatever statutes exist regarding invasion of privacy should be applied. The kid DEFINITELY does not deserve jail time for this. I shouldn't be able to jump off of the GWB and get YOU in trouble for it.

This case will make the Guinness Book of World Records because it has to be the first time that gays were treated differently than any other group and they aren't opposed to it. Equality or Attention fellas...what was it that you're fighting for again?

Of course you're completely ignorant. The trial will determine if there should be a hate crimes conviction - there are hate crimes convictions all the time for all the covered categories, gender, religious identity, veteran's status, handicap....

There is nothing unique to glbt people here, except for the question of anti gay bias as a motivation.

BTW, your ignorance goes further: The pos was offered a plea which would have meant no jail time and I believe no felony. The pos didn't take it because he fears deportation even under those terms.

He definitely tampered with evidence after the fact and tried to tamper with a witness, meaning he knew the victim's suicide was tied in with his privacy invasion. He's going to do considerably worse than that plea offer he had.

Great. With that kind of legal environment we should be able to bring charges against Michael Savage for his "Spreading Santorum" bit. What? Freedom of Speech? Well...there's yet another right that the LGBT community seems to enjoy yet doesn't wish for anyone else to. You can't have it both ways...no pun intended.

"Hate Crimes" are kind of a retarded concept, anyway.(OOOPS!! "Retarded"...somebod y press charges QUICKLY!!) The majority of non-fiscal criminal activity, which is primarily violent in nature, is rooted in hate...yet "Hate Crimes" only apply to those committed against CERTAIN GROUPS. The constitution does not grant or protect the rights of GROUPS...it's ALL INDIVIDUALS who are guaranteed these rights. When you are restricting certain rights to groups, you are discriminating against all other individuals who are not members of said groups.

...and when "You Guys" start trying to abolish our First Amendment right of Freedom of Speech, you're treading on dangerous ground, my friend. I hear that your ilk has problems breeding, but we're in no short supply of numbers over here. Don't end up on the wrong side of a REVOLUTION...

Hey cretin, Michael Savage is a homophobic commentator. Dan Savage's readers came up with the improved definition of "santorum" via a contest.

Hate crimes enhancements in this country, unlike in the UK or Canada, are not addressed at speech. You don't know anything about anything, Jed.

You sexually disordered freeeks never complain about hate crimes statutes on the basis of race, gender, religious affiliation, disability or veteran's status.(Well, maybe about race, since if you scratch a homophobe you find a racist.)

The kid in question is in big trouble. Not manslaughter, but now I bet prison time is in the realm of possibility.

I'll even help your cause. Here are some T-shirt ideas ON THE HOUSE:

"PDA's - Just because you don't want your kids to see grown men molesting each other in public DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY WOULDN'T LIKE TO SEE IT"

"NAMBLA - Bringing a whole new meaning to NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND..."

"FREE JERRY!!"

"BORN THIS WAY...and if anybody isn't, we'll rub their face in it until they feel like they have no choice, as well!"

"HOMOSEXUALITY: It's not just for dudes that couldn't get laid in High School anymore!"

We know you're sexually disordered. That is not a hate crime. You still haven't grasped any of the content, Cletus, you stooopit, inbred bigot.

I'm sure you commit your anti gay acts of violence under cover of dark, probably while you're "pretending" to cruise for homosexual sex. Then we'll get you on a hate crimes charge.

All in my "opinion," of course.

Who needs to commit "anti-gay acts of violence" when logic is on your side?

Unfortunately for your sexually retardate "logic," str8 people engage in oral and anal sex, too.

Now go and persecute them.

At least you dropped, for the moment, your confusion about speech versus committing an actual crime. So we can go on insulting you reprobate, sexually disordered, theocratic talibangelicals with impunity.

You sound very much like a person who has a need to engage in overt anti gay violence....

Have you been convicted of any yet?
