What in the hell is the world coming to? Its gettin' to where you can't even go for a walk in the woods with antlers tied to your head without some numskull taking pop shots at you.

So what was his thinking here? I see three people collecting frogs. Deer collect frogs. Therefore, those people are deer.

I don't think the police are going to believe this one.

He thought he was shooting a deer???? Obviously he doesn't take his training very seriously, hint Know your target!!! Again guns in the hands of someone irresponsible and should never have been allowed to have one. His constitutional right has not been violated but his victims was. Weird gun owners have more constitutional right than others.

I wouldn't believe it either.... it is not deer season in Virginia.

Happens all the time.(During hunting season mostly, but obviously, not only.)

The attorney's fees alone are gonna cost him everything, unless he goes on the cheap, in which case he'll do serious hard time.

The article was from Nov 18, 2009.

But that brings up and interesting point. Here in Redneckville, deer season means three things...Bubbas, Jim Beam, and high powered rifles/shotguns/crossbows/bows and arrows/Claymore mines/punji sticks/tiger traps, etc.

One of the first things you learn is NOT NOT NOT to go into the 'deer woods' to go squirrel hunting, mushroom hunting, nookie hunting, fishing, walking, jogging, camping, etc because Bubba, under the influence of Jim Beam, might shoot your a$$ off. So, you think, it would be a good idea (in fact, I believe it IS in the hunting rulebook/guidebook to wear "so many square inches of 'hunter orange'" if you go out during deer season) to make yourself conspicuous by wearing the orange vest and hat, hoping Bubba will recognize you as a non-deer entity, since deer rarely wear hunter orange in public. Possibly these folks did not do that.

But a hunter should SEE SEE SEE SEE what he is fixing to drop the hammer on. "Potshots" (shooting at an unknown target thinking it might be game) are illegal. But it happens every year. Even if you wear the orange, you might end up in the ER.

The hunter should have SEEN his target...if he had he would not have shot anyone. He might have called them several choice names, since they were walking through the area he had been hunting. But the 'shot' folks evidently put themselves in harms way just by being out there. A terribly unfortunate incident.

I missed the dateline somehow.

Anyone going into the woods without wearing blaze orange during hunting season is betting their life against some very bad odds.

They were biology students. Once they hit the job market they probably would have committed suicide anyway.

I went to Ferrum in the early 1980's we lived in Dr. Henley's house about a mile off campus and never ventured into the woods unarmed! Not that it would have helped theses kids but you have to take your surroundings into consideration at all times.
