"To comply with a clause in the bill against hiring illegal immigrants, both MSU and Drury said they will enroll in a free federal electronic verification system by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as another layer of checking.

The institutions have been relying on Form I-9, a federal employment eligibility verification form, to ensure their employees have permits to work in this country.

Crystal Ponder, an employment specialist at Drury, said the private institution is subject to the requirement because it receives more than $5,000 in state funding."

The last sentence is very interesting...

How will this work for the fastest growing part of college education, on-line teaching? Does it really matter where someone lives or if someone is "legal" for her/him to receive an education in exchange for the appropriate fees?

Yes it does.
Don't be here illegally and go to government funded schools, and most are partially government funded.
If you want to sit at home and get an education in your country;why not?.

Of course it does, how can you even ask such an outlandish question? If your breaking our laws you should not be allowed to take up space in our colleges or get any benefits on line or otherwise.

Education is the way forward. If we want to fight terrorism and other global threats where we can be effective in the long-term, we should expand access to democratic education. The American University system across the globe is evidence of the success of inclusive educational practices that spend our wealth on teaching and learning and thus reduce the need to spend money on military containment and occupation. When we education people, illegal or not, we create a future for families to become legal and to contribute fruitfully to our culture; by setting up barriers we perpetuate the siege-mentality that idea that turns the US into a fortress. I came to this country because of the education system and know it will remain the best in the world if we keep it open and democratic.

I sent an email to my representative and much to my surprise he sent me back a personal letter telling me he knew I was right and saw it himself. I told him our area is filling up with illegals and if they are so poor why are they driving the best cars in town? They are using matricula cards to get driver liscences and using the liscences to vote for our president. He said he is putting a bill on the books to do something about this problem. Its probably an amnesty bill and of course its for next year. Arent our politicians smooth? LOL!!!!!

Apparently you haven't been here long enough to have seen the decline in education since the illegal alien population has increased. You must be both blind and stupid to think that allowing anyone and everyone access to our schools is a good thing. Anyone who does gain access should be legal and should pay. If you're talking about online, that person should be in his or her appropriate country and pay -- no freebies to illegal aliens or people using fraudulent documents or anything else. We must have checks and balances in place. Our schools are for our own citizens first, our legal residents next, and anyone outside of this country who qualifies and PAYS last.

A better question is whether Skelly is even able to "think" -- and I doubt it.

Im so tired of these global factions twisting our constitution to give everyone and anyone rights over citizens. Now we have multitude of racist organizations right in our congress and they say people who obey the laws are racist. Our government is soooooo corrupt!!!!

If you are taking on line classes out of the country, then you will be paying International Student tuition.

If you are an ILLEGAL alien, then the school by federal law cannot charge you in state tuition unless they offer it to ALL out of state students.

What Missouri is doing is blocking ILLEGAL aliens from taking any classes. To accomplish this, the student both traditional and online would still need to prove citizenship as described in the article.

Most colleges allow for International student studies. The students just need to get the appropriate student visas and all the necessary health screenings and pay International student tuition.

ILLEGAL aliens cannot work in this country, regardless of their education levels.

Learn the difference between "your" and "you're" -- so get on back to school.

Once again, I guess date.com , match.com and the other online dating sites are not working for you (no surprise there) and now you're using topix.net as your possible dating source. You're pathetic.
