In Atlanta, String of Black Mayors May Be Broken

Full story: New York Times

Since 1973, this Southern capital has elected a succession of black mayors, sometimes to the consternation of residents in the largely white, prosperous neighborhood of Buckhead to the north.

Why do we keep things black and white. The same ones that scream racism, keep the fires a burning!

Four black mayors and Atlanta has declined into a crime ridden and nearly bankrupt city that has suffered one scandal after another.
Until the Federal government stepped in Atlanta was the child sex capital of America. Child sex pimps even held conventions in Atlanta bragging that were safe and protected there. It took federal prosecution under RICO statutes to put these black pimps away.
All 4 mayors came to power using racial politics to take advantage of the 66% black population. All these mayors kept crime high to scare whites from the city and used corruption to appease the black residents. Water bills and garbage bill went uncollected for black residents while raising rates for white residents who paid.
Politicians' use of code words and code phrases was understood by all blacks. "Gentrification" was fought tooth and nail to keep whites from relocating back to Atlanta after their children were beyond school age and Atlanta's hideously bad school system was no longer a factor in where to live. "McMansions" were blocked since they bought out four black families and attempted to build larger homes for whites on the combined lots.
Federal housing aid went to blacks only, federal renewal aid went to blacks only, numerous federal program benefits were steered to blacks only by crooked politicians and officials of these various programs.

Not much I can add to that except to say black politics seems to have been a dismal failure. Most of us have managed to maintain to some degree or other by virtue of our own means and abilities despite the racially biased blunders of black politics. But it's the blacks that have suffered the most from their black political icons. If Obama succeeds as president, he'll be a rare exception.
