One flaw, it's not the teachers, it's the administration that makes schools suck like that in the US. They do run the schools like a business, though a lot of teachers are pretty stupid, and most in the US have delusions anyway, but if the administration did their jobs that wouldn't happen.

I've also know a few teachers in my days (this includes my wife), but my opinions on teachers and professors comes from my experience as a student. I've had quite a few teachers in my life, some of them greater than others, some were nothing short of absolute brilliance, but all well liked. In fact, I cannot recall ever having a teacher I did not like. I respect their dedication and professionalism, and feel for the ones who are underpaid. I agree that most of those who complain about the education system in the US are those who did not make the effort to get all they could out of it.

I've never been trolled by a Canadian catcher's mitt before...

I sense a lot of jealousy and spite.

Of course that's nothing new.

Salaries for US teachers vary greatly depending on the state and region in which you serve as a teacher. In areas where the cost of living is lower than most, the average salary is well below the norm. In South Dakota for instance, the average teacher makes just under $35,000. In areas where the cost of living is high, such as California and Connecticut, the average teacher makes just under $60,000. Salaries are also dependent on an individuals number of years served and education.

As in every other country, teachers are vitally important in Canada. In Canada, the new teacher's salaries differ greatly according to which province they are teaching in. The average new teacher salary is $30,000.00. There are customarily some extra benefits, such as maternity leave, dental insurance and paid time off for illness. Teachers in Canada must pay into the Federal programs for social security, which include unemployment and pension, as required by Canadian law.

$30,000 a year out of college isn't what I would consider "great money."

Try again.

It depends on the angle the catcher's mitt is photographed from - I see Ronald Reagan.

Then you presume too much. Those that feel about teachers as I do, comes from experience. I have had good teachers as well in school. But most nowadays are in it for the retirement package, time off, and money. As here in Canada they make great money. And it is a business. Colleges are businesses, at least the one I went to was.
Americans stick their nose in the worlds business, so it is the world's right to stick it back. Also as I said, just because my opinion is not of yours, does not make it wrong, that would be rather pigheaded. I have no problem with your opinion, and have not attacked you for it.
25,000 dollars for a few weeks in class?
And you learned nothing .... looks like you were scammed.

Correction - the teacher's were scammed - they all thought they were getting somebody that had the capacity to actually learn something.

I find it interesting that the Canadian, who knows jack sh!t about even her own country, has the gall to presume she has even an inkling about what's going on in the USA. Since the most she reads is the National Enquirer, that's not surprising.
And LMBO @ her having been in college! Oh, yeah, there was that six-month class (she played hookie half the time and smoked pot the other half), where she "graduated" with a "degree in office assistance." That's laughable even for Canada! And we have seen to what a great career this lead... ROFL!
I thought she was getting a degree to become a travel agent - well, that was before Travelocity...lol

I was not replying to one of your posts. How do you feel this was directed at you? It wasn't it was my general opinion on education today based on my personal experience, as per the thread topic. Nothing to do with Harleyhunni.

"Americans stick their nose into the world's business". Why in the world are you addressing this to me? This has nothing to do with what I posted. Besides, I live in Brazil.

If you feel I offended you Harley, I apologize - it was not my intention. But please do not try to drag me into your argument, I want nothing to do with that.
