And you thought the sexual abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic church couldn't any worse than pedophile priests...wrong! The Vatican has been forced to confirm reports of sexual abuse and rape of nuns by priests in 23 countries.

The Catholic Church has been widely criticized for how it handled instances of priests sexually abusing young people. And a six-month investigation by "20/20" found Protestant ministers, supposed men of God from every denomination, sexually abusing the children who trusted them. The investigation uncovered "preacher predators" in every corner of the country.

The Southern Baptist Convention is the largest Protestant organization in the United States. And the organization is structured in a way that makes it difficult to police these preacher predators. The convention has 16.3 million members and 43,000 independent churches.

The point is that ANYONE can be a predator and that it happens EVERYWHERE!!! It's not just priests, it happens in other churches/denominations, schools, families, youth groups, etc. It's about time people come to terms with that and quit blaming the Catholic Church and its priests for all the abuse in the world!!!

We would be naïve and dishonest were we to say this is a Roman Catholic problem and has nothing to do with us because we have married and female priests in our church. Sin and abusive behavior know no ecclesial or other boundaries." Rt. Rev. William Persell, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, Good Friday Sermon, 2002.

Don't need it.

It's a bad thing.

It's a bad thing when clerics do it. It's bad when non-clerics do it.

It's not limited to Catholic clerics.

One of the members of the Southern Baptist Convention admits that there's no way to track the "Preacher Preditors" because (his words) "Each church is autonomous."
You might want to check out some of the above websites Robert, before you start accusing Catholics.

In the case of the Catholic Church, the higher ups try to cover up the abuse. They protect the priests and the church, not the children. The current Pope, the supposed vicar of Christ on earth, has been involved in such cover-ups. Why aren't these people going to prison? Who would continue to be a member of racket like the Catholic Church?
