Science under fire from 'doubters'
Scientists are facing an uphill battle to warn the public about pressing issues due to dissenters in their ranks who intentionally sow uncertainty, a US historian has said.

Doubt is not the issue. The scientists are educated in the field and convinced of the evidence.
The issues are 'ignorance'(that is, not researching the science) and education (not being able to understand the science well enough).
And a concerted effort by industry to promote those two factors.
Anyone can 'doubt' if they don't know anything. Just as they can 'believe' with no evidence. But both are 'religion', not science.

What should have been a scientific endeavor turned into a political football. When that happened doubt became it's shadow.
With very little science the politicos tried to impose taxes on the public. It didn't take long for John Q to ask how taxes, especially cap and trade, was going to fix the atmosphere.
If money can fix it, it's not the climate that is broken.
Then the politicians used the old scare tactic. NYC west hwy was going to be covered in water, the pacific islands would disappear, hurricanes would savage the east coast. Heck we even had some predict earthquakes from climate change.
But the year 2000 has come and gone and all of the above, are still above water. Altho we still have hurricanes, not any more or any more intense than we did before.
Then the politicians decided they would legislate, and allow the EPA to regulate. Now we have ethanol. Ethanol lowers fuel efficieny and raises the cost of food. Something any grocery shopper can tell you has happened in the last year.
We all know what happened to gasoline, prices went up and with ethanol mpg's went down. To beat all, more CO2 is produced and put into the atmosphere during the processing of ethanol than oil. Can you say politics.
Now add in the billions we are losing to alternative fuel companies our government has decided to subsidize.
And what do we get from the scientists? Emails that show bad behavior in anyone's book. Data sources destroyed or lost. Methodology that must be requested under freedom of information acts but it still not disclosed. Charts that when finally disclosed must be changed because how what was done doesn't pass the smell test.
We get scientifically derived equations that after 15 years of testing still don't work. The heat is still 'missing'.
Doubt? The scientists and politicians have given us plenty of reason to doubt.
What they haven't done is produce any science that can support their premise. CO2 is still going up and temps are flat.
Here's 2011, now one of the warmest years ever, just wait a little bit they change the list again. 2011 when compared to the average of the years since 1995 shows 2011 to be -.01* cooler than the average of those years.
Here's a look at warming since 1979, the time period of satelitte data. The rate of warming has decreased.

As the article says, doubt is not an issue; it is a product.
Produce doubt, delay regulations, rake in trillions and let coming generations deal with the huge mess you leave. Science has nothing to do with it.
